Skip Levels and Bad Management

For the love of all that is holy, if you are going to promote anyone into a management role as a diversity hire, please coach and mentor them! Their reports suffer, they suffer, and morale is in the dumpster. Upper management should never wait to schedule skip level check ins with lower level employees. It's backwards and poor leadership.

Personally I don’t care what your “insert diversity” is so long as you’re a good boss. If you’re good to your people, they will look after you so long as you aren’t terribly incompetent. However, there is way too much advancement to unqualified folks because they check a box. It’s not right and if I was one of those people I would be seriously offended. Moreover, you would know you weren’t qualified and not deserving. Idk, maybe it’s just me and I feel like I have to earn it. Probably stupid since that’s not how the world really works. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know and now what box you can check.

Been to a few of these. Essentially, all issues will land on nothing can be done or changed, because they are beyond the control of the org.

Merit increase too small, vacation takeaways, employee discount disappearing, you know the drill. We recognize your concerns, but company policy is policy. You aren’t missing much.

I haven't ever had a skip level in my current organization. They don't care enough to schedule them.

In a previous organization, the higher up answered the phone in the middle of it and said "this is important" and walked out of the room to take the call. So much for even being subtle about caring.

I can’t wait to see all major corporations with a majority of diversity hires running top level. Diversity is more important than ability and knowledge.

Skip levels? Really? I can count on 1 hand how many times we had one. Our VP didn't want to talk to the Peons ever.

Let 'em show up.
Stop working. Shoot the sh@t for as long as they want.
Ask stupid questions to feed their ego. They view us as stupid.
Still getting paid. Hourly. Who's the stupid one? hahahahahaha.
See how long you can keep them there wasting everyone's time.
"So glad you came by to talk. Hope to do it again soon."
Then go on break.

The point is not to bring in talent. The point is to make sure we look like the Colors of Benetton ads in the ‘90s.

The whole point of diversity hiring is that they aren't competent

Just do your job and collect a check. Things are so jacked up, no level of good management can save T.
