Negotiate pay

Band 6 making a lateral move. Will this come with a raise and should I try to negotiate for more?

There are really 2 parts to your question:

  1. Will the raise be automatic? This is the part that has to do with the market area and where your current salary fits. If you are below the median, there is a good chance that HR will adjust your salary to higher, although they should have been doing that every year anyway. The only difference is that this is an additional opportunity since increasing a low salary cannot be done in one shot.
  1. Should you negotiate for more? Yes, you absolutely should, but in a nice reasonable way. Let the manager know you are looking at least for a small increase and see what they can do. Do not be greedy or arrogant.

HR will determine the pay, based on position and market pay range. Can be same or equal to what you have now, but would never go down.
