Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Direct TV - March 9th is here.

Direct TV - March 9th is here.. Is your DTV Service off yet? I called to cancel DTV and the rep said my service would be cut off as of March 9th. I still have service as of today. Anyone else?

Service is turned off as I requested. Good riddance. Got Youtube TV with 4k and unlimited DVR cloud storage for the same price. Love the change.

I'm keeping DirecTV for now, as switching to cable would have cost more than the package I chose. Plan was to wait a few months, then call to cancel and see if they'll offer me a better rate to stay. I can't say I was ever unhappy with DTV, so would rather stay with them over Optimum. (Wife isn't ready to cut the cord yet, and "happy wife...." applies here. LOL)

But I noticed my channel lineup changed today, and had to log into HBOMax with my Wireless credentials instead of my DTV credentials.

When I called they said my DTV satellite service would end at the end of my billing cycle and they would send me instructions to return the equipment next week.

On the equipment return, has anyone tried telling them to come get their equipment or you are going to start charging them storage costs? LOL

I called to cancel even though I did the survey. My service was turned off 3/10. I read told I needed to return my equipment. I might get something from Direct TV, but I can return my equipment by taking it to Fed Ex and giving them my Direct TV account. If not returned by March 31, I would be charged $150.

I've had DIRECTV since 1994 when it first came out, installed my own dish on my roof. March 10th, 2022 it ended. The discount allowed me to stay and not cut the cord but it's time. Installed an antenna and getting 60+ channels over the air. Shopping for a low cost streaming service to fill in the gaps and planning to build a DVR for antenna over the air shows.

I responded to the survey only, my service ended as expected.

I’ll miss it, I liked it. It’s the second service in my home, so it wasn’t worth keeping at the new price. I’m not in an AT&T LEC area, so I have to buy internet from a cable company. My internet bundle includes TV at a reasonable price.

To the old folks who actually still call large corporations…. Embrace the online chat! I’ve found I get served faster, and I instantly get a written transcript of my interaction. Save the voice calls for the grandkids.

Spent about 2 hours on the phone with DTV today trying to straighten the bill out. I had called 2 months ago to cancel a few add on channels and surprise surprise……they were still billing me for them. The funny thing about the whole thing was the representative spent more time trying to sell me an AT&T internet upgrade and an AT&T wireless plan than she spent trying to solve my DTV issues.

My DTV service got disconnected on 3/09. No word yet how to return that outdated equipment. Good luck DTV with that old junk. Hope DTV rented additional warehouse to store it and cost of doing it will be more than this stuff is worth. That is how this company makes money. Instead of rising prices gradually they went 1000%.

I did the survey whenever it came out a month or more ago. My signal is off today. Made no calls.

They could have waited until March madness was finished before cutting everyone off. Whatever happened to giving customers something in return for many loyal years to DTV?

She is saying they are sending me a box to return equipment and that I will be refunded the balance of the month once they receive the box back. Allegedly the box was already in flight independent of my call.

If I don't want to wait for the box I can go to a local Fedex place that she gave me the address of.

Called yesterday after checking the account. I noticed a lot of “extra” services on my account that I never ordered. Got those removed asap.

I only did the survey, made no calls to anyone. Got an email this morning saying it was cut off, and it is. From my last statement I believe I was paid through the 20th, so I guess we'll see if they refund anything. Not holding my breath.

No one has said anything about returning equipment. The email doesn't.

I'm on hold now to talk to them, but hey - AT&T is paying me plenty to waste time on this!

My service was through March 9, it was disconnected about 330am the 9th. I did call to confirm the cancellation, survey monkey did not start the process. Heading to UPS with a box of stuff to ship, verified the need acct #, etc. My last day with the company was Feb 25 so the timing was perfect. No longer an employee and no AT&T services.

I cancelled my DTV in December but had been using the apps to stream in rooms that I did not have a receiver since I only had a receiver in my family room. DTV immediately cut off the receiver and I dropped it off to Fed Ex.
I've been streaming apps like TLC, History, Fox News, TCM, ESPN ever since on my Firesticks.
Biggest bargain ever. Free app streaming. Looks like the ownership transfer isn't too transparent. Oh well.

My service was still on as of today. I suggest you call to cancel service there was no record of canceling on my account even though I submitted survey monkey request. 800.377.9010. Rep provided confirmation number for cancelation. Email will be sent within 24 hours with more info on returning equipment.

My changes were all handled by filling out the survey monkey from Santone's email. Check it online and is in. Something worked right -

Downgraded my service since I don't watch much cable TV. Took 5 minutes on the phone, service rep was very good and the whole process completely painless!

I still had satellite DirecTV service this morning, so I called 1-800-531-5000 and spoke to a wonderful DirecTV rep. My billing cycle goes through 3/11, so I wanted to make sure I canceled before the new billing cycle started. The rep canceled my service as of the end of my billing cycle and told me that I’ll have a signal until 11:59pm on 3/12. I’ll receive an email within 24 hours of disconnect confirming the cancellation. And I should also get a paper letter in the mail.

She said to take my equipment (genies, remotes) to any UPS or FedEx store with my account number and photo ID and they will box them up and ship them back to DirecTV and she emphasized to keep the shipping receipt to prove I returned equipment. She also gave me a disconnect confirmation number.

So we’ll see what happens. I’m still not really clear how I’ll have service on 3/12 when the billing cycle ends on 3/11, but she confirmed I am pending disconnect before the new billing cycle starts.

Yes for everyone that submitted their disconnect online you need to call in directly to officially terminate service. They had no record of it and also you have to return eqpt by 3/30.

Directv may not cut off your service. You'll just get a full-cost bill when billing catches up.
