There is life outside the berm. I found it. Full remote job. Even better pay. The new job isn't perfect, but it pays better, I'm doing new things and most importantly it is without reorgs every six months.

@1wxh: if Nike is promoting more of the long term high performers now that’s a great development and long overdue. I left Nike primarily because I was tired of being one of those people whose sole “reward” for long term high performance was just more work. I hope Nike is finally realizing that if you don’t promote your star players those people are simply going to look for other opportunities where there’s a more realistic chance for significant career advancement.

I’m happy to say my new employer is thrilled to have me. My new colleagues sometimes ask “Was it difficult or scary to leave a ‘prestige’ employer like Nike?” I always tell them “The only thing that scared me more than the thought of leaving Nike was the thought of staying at Nike.”

I’ve noticed that there’s been a recent uptick in promotions for individuals that have long been ready/deserved them. It’s nice to see them get recognition finally but it’s also sad to think mass resignations due to terrible culture, flexibility, etc have largely driven the company to “wake up” slightly and finally reward long term high performing individuals.

Idk what dream world you all were living in but Nike as a culture never was "an amazing experience". Its been "fun things to do around campus" but the people kind of suck here.

Been like that since the 2009 reorg. Lots of empire building and backroom deals. Some of that has gone away now with D&I getting so heavily involved (not such a great thing but at least its more fair). I just see this as another movement in the masses, similar to 2014 - 2015 when we had a lot of good people leave after such a big bo-m on the stock price.

I left Nike recently. After I gave my notice, the most interesting part was the number of people who reached out to tell me that they were also wanting to leave and asking for help with resumes, advice on interviewing, or even to tell me how envious they were that I was getting out. It was a wake up call to me and doesn’t bode well for Nike’s short term future.

Today, Employees have a radically different preferences or even needs than we did say 2 or 3 years ago. Ways of working, flexibility, values, etc. too are different for employees. When an organization does not support or even recognize the employees needs, the result is a revolving door with outgoing and incoming employees. Personally, I do not expect or demand that Nike changes; that is well and truly beyond my control or realm of influence. However, I can change what is within my control including looking for another company and the right role with the right conditions for me. Only speaking for myself here.
