"If you have the right ,cosmetics, promos are freely available. Just Joe hiring the best black female for the job. Plus protected class is the key." Absolutely, they tuck the garbage social equity in there on everything. I know several (actually a lot) of incompetent clowns from the PM world that are director GR13s now. Sales and services as well. When you have HR call and say hire this one, promote that one, give a raise to the other one it ki--s the drive to do better. Middle aged white guy? Forget it after you hit 12. Be in the "protected" class? There is a whole separate budget just for those to give promos, stock, and merit increases. MM is a classic example. Watch, she will be the next ceo. You think chambers should have left years earlier or chucky should have been canned already? Wait untill they GIVE her the ceo role. Not that the company had much left in the tank but she has put a ho-e in it and bumping her up will give her the axe to make it non repairable.

Yeah, they announced annual cycles for everything a few years back. They didn’t follow that policy. The new CFO wants to hold the company to that policy. But it’s just too inflexible and leading to horrendous attrition because people are leaving for offers that seem to be more attractive (or ARE more attractive).

One of last year's check-ins communicated that the promotion and salary cycle will become an annual cycle (in Fall).

My leader pointed out that very strong cases can still be promoted in Spring (I'm not sure about salary raises in Spring). If you read this board, then put your hopes up in Fall, only :P

"So much nonsense here. Promos happen twice a year. End of Q2 and Q4."

Agreed. I ran my team of 18 people, April and October the time frame for promotions.I always promoted people who needed it vs my boss asking me his a-s li---r, cloth complimenter to be given RSU's. I brought my whole team on almost par on salary. I saved few guys from team from being LR'd too - yeah, I managed to shield them, fought for them.

Senior management did not like my approach to create equality in the team and wanted to create a differentiation among resources on pay package as they dont know them or did not like the business pulled from the account. Result, I left management and then left Cheesco.

If you go against what written in the book - you are not welcomed in Cheesco.

Hard to promote regular employees when there is a massive backlog of middle management waiting for their promotion. Everyone knows if you want a significant raise, you need to leave the company. Management will first take care of number one, and if there are crumbs leftover, then you might get a nibble.

Point out how people you help don’t know anything in your team meetings or better yet just make changes to someone else’s work and act like you were the creator all along and make it seem like no one else can do it.

Promotions are bad for job security at Cisco. I watched a guy bust his a-s for a promotion, followed by getting eliminated the following year due to budget issues. The key to job security at Cisco is relationships... not performance.

Make friends with SVPs or VPs... compliment them on their clothes or intelligence. Stroke their egos.

That being said attrition is now close to 10%, so plenty of opp to take a new role and be promoted, whenever that happens.

Once a year in September. Each people leader get a stock/salary increase budget that they can distribute across their team.
