We have a boss who constantly talks about how we should work harder and come up with innovative ideas. What actually happens is that employee comes up with an idea and of course, regrets doing do. The idea is ignored and the employee feels miserable. It’s amazing how many superiors don’t walk the talk.

Ahh innovation. Where you have to generate reams of PowerPoint and paper to present to committees of nodding-off DE’s. Only for them to wake up and ask you how this is different to ATM? Then to be give 20% of the ask, and told to do it with off-the-shelf components.
Then 1 year later, they complain that your “innovation” looks like everything else in the market. I wonder why?
That is what "leading from behind" produces.
It's a manipulation tactic. Prostitutes have been known to use similar tactics.
