Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

How's this for perspective?

BM- "But what about the water coolers?!"

A few morsels:
"When two workers are on different floors of the same building they communicate by picking up the phone, Slacking one another, or sending an email."

"I still buy coffee and lunch. Actually, I buy a lot more of both. The difference being I buy it locally, not from a faceless chain on the high street."

"This is a replay of brick and mortar retail vs. eCommerce. Initially, everyone thought stores would win because nobody would buy things online."

"...younger generations are used to building relationships online. We learn in ways these white-haired have no idea about."

"The arrival of personal computers in the nineteen-nineties, followed by the spread of high-speed Internet in the two-thousands, upended this status quo by obviating the need for individuals to be in the same building to collaborate or access information."

AGREE. The in office constant, irrelevant to work chatter is non stop and disgusting to see. You can’t work and really can’t plug in earbuds because you have calls to take. And these are managers that do it all day with their non productive teams or sit in our leaders office all day to talk about nothing.
WFH is where we need to be.

I wish the people forced to come back in my area were as considerate as yours. They talk so loudly I have to plug in my music just to not be distracted by their obnoxious voices distracting me all day long.

Even in a cube farm, people in adjacent rows will IM or phone rather than talk. Talk bothers everyone else. Most interaction isn't worth booking a conference room!
