Are you more or less productive?

A question for those who have returned to the office: are you more or less productive than when working at home?

Less. I deduct my 2 hour commute each way from the work day. Plus, an hour for lunch.

With WFH, I worked all kinds of crazy hours because I was grateful for the flexibility.

Not anymore.

For me, it’s a combination of both.

In some ways I’m more productive. I’m able to get answers from people who would ignore me via email during WFH.

On the flip side, I’m much more tired because of my long commute which makes me a little sluggish and unable to concentrate. I don’t raise my hand or speak up as much as I did when I was WFH. And I’m also out the door at 5pm sharp. So in that sense, I’m less productive.

But I did go into the office for nearly 15 years without any problems, so I probably just have to get used to it again.

Ask me again in 3 months :)

They will be getting less from me! I will be tired and grouchy from getting up 2 hours earlier and fighting traffic. What pi---s me off the most, is RTO is no consistent and there are many who's managers are allowing them to stay home or only come in enough that they don't end up on the naughty list for not badging into the building. What about all those people who are still MyWork because they don't live near an office. So are they not part of the culture?

Same! I can’t stand folks walking up to chit chat now! But there’s no way around it since the whole point of dragging is back was to be social, right?!? So silly- we’re adults- let us WFH if we’re more productive!

Less. I never worked from home during the pandemic. I was vaccinated, boosted, and had the option to go into the the office, so I did, as my commute wasn’t bad and I preferred having access to all the office equipment and my comfortable well laid-out workspace, but now, in particular because we just moved to a “modernized” space w/ cramped “bench” workstations, with no real partitions, no privacy, noisy, free-flowing germs, constant distractions and NO SPACE, so space for storage, no space for files, no space to spread out your current paperwork.

Dear BofA,

I do not collaborate. I am not a writer or an ad exec. As much as it may wish to be, the bank is not Google or Apple. Please cut the sh*t - this is not a creative job, it is a keep-your-head-down-and-plow-thru-as-much-work-as-possible-in-a-day job and it requires intense concentration w/ minimal disruptions. Doing everything in your power to make employees less productive is an odd strategy...

Studies have already shown that in most industries open workspaces create inefficiencies and reduce productivity and employee satisfaction, why the bank is still flushing money down the toilet rolling these spaces out in one location after the other w/ no real upside is beyond me...it seems like they are pretending to be something they are not - a cool, hip, creative and COLLABORATIVE industry, but it’s not and dressing up like one is only leading to wasted money & time and frustrated employees.

They are getting FAR less from me, b/c I am pi$$ed at them for making me RTO.
I go in but only do about 30-60 minutes actual work.
I hang with my pals -- none of whom are on my team or have anything to do with the work I do -- all day long.
in WFH, they were getting 10-12 hrs a day from me.
Hoping they will do the math and bring back WFH.

Much less productive. The noise is the most distracting to me. I'm not used to people laughing and speaking loudly all day long. That is not the only distraction. My co-workers want to gab all day long which of course hurts my productivity. Lastly, no masks make me very weary of how long it will take before I'm infected, although vaccinated, we all know the vaccine that I got nearly a year ago isn't helping me much. I'm also disturbed by the reduction of personal time and the cost of gas. SO sad........but too bad. The seniors citizens who run BOA thinks in office is the answer so into the office I go.

I agree! More tired, very distracted by the noise. People are constantly talking loud. Most of my group in another building so I dread going to work now. I’m constantly looking at the time because I hate being in the office. Funny thing is I hated working from home initially but as I adapted I noticed myself being more creative and productive because I was less distracted and felt as ease. I worked harder and a little more hours but I was all too happy doing it. Working from home didn’t feel like work because I enjoyed my job. Being in the office makes me dread what I do and i’m actively looking to get something remote even it means changing careers.

I find myself more tired and less able to concentrate at the office, which is affecting my productivity. I wonder if this is true for others as well.
