Working from the office is as outdated as dial-up modems.
I guess that's why dinobabies are pushing for it.

Having to go into an office is mo--nic. I have been a remote/WFH employee since 2005, previously with another company before coming to IBM. I am more productive, more responsive, more engaged, and more energetic because I don't have to deal with a commute and don't have to spend $$ for gas/food etc. The world has gone remote, so unless you need to be hands-on at a facility (like a plumber, or electrician) then why the need to "go back to the office"? It's just miserable "management" people exerting their control, like making people wear masks even when there is no reason to.

As an ex-IBMer (RA'd a few years ago), I can confirm that yes, you are blacklisted and will very likely not be considered for open positions you apply for. I found this out personally, having applied for many open spots that were good fits during my three month search period. I confirmed it by directly emailing the hiring manager to ask about the position and once I told them I was being RA'd the conversation ended. Others on my team that were affected applied to many more spots than I did and never heard a thing back. Not a single reply to any of us. Ever.

The reason I say above "very likely not be.." is that if you have the right connection to a highlevel person in management who will go to bat for you, you MAY be able to snag an open spot. I did see this in two cases over the years. But, it is very much the exception, not the norm. 99% of the people who get the RA notice will never get a single reply from any internal job post. Sadly, outside hires will process through without any problems to the open spots you are being ignored for.

For those of you saying/thinking this is not how it works - I would bet you've never been through this personally. This is absolutely how it works at IBM. They have identified you by one of their criteria (age, salary, medical costs, whatever) and want you gone and are not going to open any doors for you to stay.

Not true Once you are on the RA list you are blacklisted and cooked. I've only seen it once in over 20 years. And that one was almost 15 years ago. In fact I saw one particular case where the individual applying was so qualified, they simply took down the posting until they were gone.

So negative. Don’t forget, IBM let’s the dead rats move to a different trap if they can find an open one.

IBM leaves the dead rats in their traps for 3 months. They keep feeding them too. Instills fear and servitude in the living rats.

It really is a dilemma. It’s the current working group that does not want to go back to the office. But for next new group of hires it will be fine. They will like the collaboration it brings.

They say it's mandated, then exempt all the upper mgmt teams.
That's called discrimination and does not align with equality-equity.
Refer to your BCG training. What they're doing could be a violation.
(unless they start enforcing ALL employees back to the office)

POK is also offering a free lunch on Wednesdays out of food trucks to get people to come back. Some are starting to talk about carpooling due to the gas prices.

I predict that we are moving to a mandatory 2 day minimum in the office (whether it makes sense for your job or not). Some who are retirement eligible and have moved away during the pandemic will tell the company "let me work 100% remote or I will retire"....and the company may accept some of that based on the person/job. The rest will have not have a choice but to quit or collocate. People who were hired during the pandemic (and allowed to work from anywhere at that time) are already starting to move to their "work location" since the writing is on the wall.

The Atlanta, GA offices are open. IBM provides free lunches out of food trucks to welcome back the troops at the offices! Let's see how long that lasts!
