Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Reality Check

Tech mostly, but this also includes WHQ. Our Nike culture is gone. Those of us that have been around a long while know this, though we want to play denial; it's gone. It's heart breaking, but is the reality (well unless you are a base VP and above).

JD may have been part of our BOD for years, but that doesn't mean he understood our family unit. His background and drive is completely opposite from what Phil and Bill built. Google it (it's mostly personal greed and personal capitalism at its best. What a douche that doesn't care about anyone but his own financial bottom line. Good Luck in Heaven.).

What's sad is watching all the newbies coming in with full on p-m poms and they have no idea what they are walking into and at a really low paying wage. We won't be able to get away with this for long. Plus our product quality is going down. We don't pay a competitive wage. Anyway you look at it, it egotistical and not reality. The Swoosh is swooshed like a toilet scrub. We ain't what we were. Sadly (I blame you JD)

There's no pride anymore or clout. We're just like Walmart now. The brand isn't worth anything. sigh Maybe we'll be lucky and Amazon will buy us out. Nike is done.

If you are a white male and expect privileged treatment and party towing growth, you will still do well here. Everyone else? Good luck. DE&I is a long standing joke here.

Whatever happened to hiring based upon their strength of character and work ethic and not the color of their skin. Our society is causing and will continue to cause resentment if they continue to focus on the color of skin versus what the "person" offers.

I don't know exactly what the OP was trying to express, but here's my perspective and interpretation. I've been in Tech a little over a decade and have witnessed the shift(s). I believe it started in 2015 where we've either had a reorg or a layoff looming. Tech has always been the most toxic business unit at Nike. Even with our toxicity, we still held pride and love for the brand. Sadly, that hasn't existed for years now as we've had to watch the turnover of our CIOs and leaders. Leadership is non-existent and that stems from the top (JD) down. Nike and Nike Tech treats employees like indentured servants to produce work 24/7 and be grateful to have a job or leave. This is our reality. I don't know why anyone stays.

What is the problem? They want to call us a Tech company without investing. It's all wrapping paper with bows and lies. Do they really think we don't see this? This strategy is the reason we keep failing. Packaging is what we're known for... Ironically our new CEO comes from Tech and hasn't grasped our ingenious marketing packaging. What a f'in id--t.

Another issue, HR and Finance are in absolute control of Tech.

God Bless and Good Bye.

@ccz: Tell that to several of the white people who have been let go over the last two to three years, only to have a minority elevated into the role that was supposedly being eliminated. I know at least a half-dozen people this has happened to. They were told “You’re being let go because we’re getting rid of your role.” Then they learn months later that their role didn’t disappear. Instead a person with darker skin was moved into the exact same job. If you are unaware how common this has been the last few years then you’re simply an unaware person in general.

I don’t know where you are coming from with this. There has been a significant amount of promotions for people of color over the last year. It’s not a finish line, but compared to anywhere I’ve worked, it is absolutely above and beyond what I’ve experienced.

So true. Nike is only for white men and women. Yet the most successful athletes on the brand have all been black. Or other ethnic origins that are not white
