From what I’m hearing it’s all except outstate and northwest Indiana.
Is it all the Term Tech's? Or only a percentage?
Responding to: Spliced fiber for a LONG time…and watched our plant get butchered by the “pronto new hires” a long time ago.
You are correct but the problem is also with so called training. Every garage fiber crew had their own of standards. I don't remember any specific training at Westmont for how to set up cables and ribbons in a splice case. Laziness is rampant too. Single fibers are stored on top of fused ribbons on trays. Most of all which I can't stand is not running ribbons up to trays from the bottom basket. Now you have singles running up from the basket to trays. I wouldn't say the pronto new hires were the problem. I think things have changed from those days to the last 10 years. I had some good guys to train me 17 yrs ago. Laziness and attitude are the biggest concern most likely.
A little civility here, please!
Cheap unskilled labor!
With 35 years at ATT under my belt, I’d be more than happy to switch places with those young guys impacted by layoffs. The problem is T doesn’t allow you to volunteer which would mean a bigger severance package that T would be responsible for. There’s no work in my out of region state, more techs than there is work. Makes you wonder if anyone in the VP level will notice techs getting paid to do nothing. Probably not cuz that’s what they bargained for! Oh well, sucks to be laid off!
The company has no vision for the future. I watched some good guys get the bad news today, guys that can take the baton forward for the next 30 plus years. So they got rid of some slugs, they got rid of more good than bad by far. Shame on these id--ts.
Spliced fiber for a LONG time…and watched our plant get butchered by the “pronto new hires” a long time ago. They wouldn’t let the experienced fiber splicers in the “pronto crew”…..and we’ve paid for it ever since. Any id--t can hit a button to fuse two fibers….but if you think it doesn’t take a good amount of training …..your wrong. Many are just BUTCHERS!! Foreman NEVER checked quality….good light levels…it’s all good. Now copper and fiber are a mess.
I started as a term tech (Leg-t) in 1995, still here.
AT&T is always good to do paid training for people and let them go to our competitors as “experienced techs”. Way to get free paid training guys!!!
Please...BFS work has become so non-technical that techs coming from U-Verse and Directv are learning the job in about a week. Nothing too technical about it. As long as you know your way around a laptop and most young people do, then it's a piece of cake!
It’s Putin!!
It takes years to develop ability to come up with bad excuses and ways to manipulate the system to avoid doing any real work.
The term employees can’t possibly perform the highly skilled top craft installation and maintenance functions. It takes years and years of invaluable experience and technical knowledge.
It's about time. Where's the person who keeps posting union workers can't be surplused???
Same as its always been, "Term Tech" just means "Hire to Fire". Why anyone keeps applying for these spots, especially outside hires, is beyond me. Back in the day the hr person running the "hiring" would straight up warn candidates to have a plan B because don't be surprised to be laid of or surplused in 6 months right after traning.
Take me, take me, I’ll volunteer in lieu of the term tech!
Come on really…. “Top craft work” is a little bit of a stretch.
Maybe they shouldn’t have hired limited term employees to do top craft work !! then the budget wouldn’t be blown up and the fiber they connected destroyed we haven’t gone to a new fiber area that wasn’t completely spliced wrong or in some cases not at all smh
Adjusting the workforce. Thats how businesses are run.
