Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

If you no longer work at XOM, why do you keep visiting this page?

This is not a "stay away" or "you don't belong here" kind of post, I'm genuinely curious what you get from it? If I managed to find a new job and leave or if I were laid off or even fired, I personally would not want to have anything to do with this place and I wouldn't give a damn about what's going on here anymore. Seeing people still invested in XOM after being gone in some cases for years is confusing.

I left in 2020. I keep coming back because it's basically the only way I think I might hear some honest opinions about the current state of the company (culture, morale, strategy) and what might be happening at my former organization/site. Also, the gossip and rumors are kind of fun and remind me of chatting with colleagues around the coffee machine.

I come back over and over again to enjoy the wreck immorally and forcibly left behind. Beyond my wildest expectations, over satisfied. LOL

Like many other cults or bad relationships it’s hard to walk away and not look back.. At least at the beginning. Everyone grows at their own pace, but over time you’ll learn to let go. Once you leave I’d think you regularly check back, then it declines over time. Maybe after 6mo to a year you learn to let go and move on.

@xmq+1fRP7pq9 - because you will not hear the truth in the "real" working environment...people are faking it and will hide the truth to please their managers...hence people have to come here to vent out their frustration...enjoy it while EM is still listed active...since EM probably will be remove soon as the lay-off is over soon....

It’s cheap 1-minute entertainment, as I smoke my bowl & drink my wine off the home spa on the 4th tee box of the TWTPC; financially independent after 35 year of EM, enjoying a 50 year marriage with grandchildren; life now is forever a weekend. Thank you ExxonMobil

So why not spend 60 seconds feeling empathic? I have been there .

Good luck to all & peace

Post ID: @OP+1fRP7pq9: if you’re so happy at EM you should be too fulfilled with your job and yet your on a layoff site being messy 🤣 you are obviously a worker bee and not a HIPO 😘

It's like checking the Facebook of your former long term girlfriend or boyfriend, someone you cared about but eventually abused you and broke your heart. Yo go back for closure. Eventually you find love elsewhere and you learn even to forgive or to stop caring.

I retired about a month ago and come here to get insight on what is going on in the company. I had a good career, although the end was not as good as the beginning and middle. Wishing everyone all the best.

I retired from XOM and when I begin reminiscing about work, I come here to get me out of those happy thoughts.

XOM was the most bizarre professional experience I've had over my short 11 year career. The two years I spent there contained more drama and head scratching moments than the other 9 all combined. Even though it wasn't a great ending for me (PIP'd in 2020) I still was kind of entertained by the ridiculous nature of it all and I periodically come back to this site to read about some of the same experiences I had. I'm not bitter towards XOM and truthfully I'm glad I had some experience there if for no other reason than to know what kind of culture to avoid in the future.

For me to see if the company is making changes for improvement in work culture or not, based on feedback given by current employees, as I still do keep in touch with some ex-colleagues.
Furthermore just to see some funny behaviours and comments from ex-colleagues, which sometimes are hillarious :)

Yeah, fair post. Here’s my two cents:

  1. I still have friends there which Onstill care for, and this forum looks like a pretty good metric of how the environment is doing
  2. Personally, my last year in XOM (2020/2021) was awful compared to my other 12 years in the company. It was a very hard to explain -and understand- anomaly. So I do show up here once in a while to see and double check if it was just me or a generalized issue. I guess you can call that closure…
