Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why did I even bother going?

Five people. That's it. Only five people on my entire floor. There was no "much-needed, productivity-rising, in-person collaboration" the leadership keeps yammering about. We said hi and then everybody did their own thing. If I had any doubts about RTO being utterly unnecessary, they have now been washed away.

Havent physically met a coworker or manager in over a decade and we have all been fine with that. If lucky there are maybe 3 people in the same state, and they dont even meet up.

@1ifr - Who is “they” in your claim. Managers in our group have not heard a thing about this, where to get the reports, or what they are to do with them.

Floor is slowing filling up as people have different RTO dates

I had to move all of the unused water coolers on the floor together so hat they could collaborate.

Ummm....they are tracking badge data every day if not multiple times a day. They are just reviewing at this point. No action from the data yet

They will start monitoring badge swipes in April.

Why would anyone go in now when they aren’t even monitoring badge swipes yet?

My floor was about 50%, which is probably right inline with expectations. I would say 25 out of 50 on the floor

The key paragraph here is:

"They demand flexibility: 75% of executives want to come back to the office three or more days a week — compared with just 37% of rank-and-file employees, according to a new Slack Future Forum report."

That's what I've done for most of my career as did many people I work with. Nobody I know ever thought work was supposed to be fun. That's why they call it work.

Our team has basically been remote for nearly a decade. The switch to 100% remote actually made us more efficient. Our productivity actually increased as people had a little extra time without the commute. Even though we lost people, we handled a significant increase in work.

Executive leadership whines about efficiency, but wants to force us into face time with strangers, impacting the efficiency of our work schedules and meetings with who we actually do business with. This is a completely discordant philosophy.

Either you reap the benefits that WFH has offered (better employee availability, better coverage, better work life balance, INCREASED EFFICIENCY) or you try to ki-l it by forcing RTO. Layoffs are still happening RTO or not.

At this point, if you're told to RTO, you're in a group that either isn't performing, or is on the list. Do with that information what you will.

They were all making sure to mention it in the town hall today!

“I am enjoying RTO and hope all of you get the chance to collaborate in person.”

No, that is never the case. All of my collaboration is done with my team that is scattered with one or two people all at different sites and cities. I do not ever see my team. We have never been together in person. We have never felt that we are hindered in any way - digital collaboration is just as easy if not more easy to do than in person.

Wait, people said 'hi'? Haven't seen that yet, lol. At my location, people enter building, sit down, and do their own thing. Later, they get up and go home.
