'Totally different talent'

Interesting article https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2022/03/22/ford-ceo-farley-talent-goals/9453474002/?gnt-cfr=1

Creating advanced electrical architecture like what's used on the cell phone, Ford can change the vehicle to include "predictive failure" for its vast number of commercial customers to avoid unplanned downtime, for example.
"And that requires totally different talent," Farley said. "We don’t have that talent at Ford. But we have to make sure that talent works with the people at Ford. That’s one thing."

Thoughts?

@OP. Maybe is my ignorance talking, or knowing that nothing intelligent comes from JF's mouth, but I believe the "predictive failure" can only work on certain electronic components due to self check algorithms.

The "predictive failure" on mechanical components is done the "old fashion way", by submitting the part to gruesome testing, mimicking the prolonged wear from normal use. Then, based on those results, the manufacturer recommends to swap the part at x-x miles, before it breaks.

Even with ten times more chips than ICE, an EV is more than a computer on wheels. Meaning there are more mechanical components than electronic, so the "predictive failure" feature will be very limited, by its own nature. Am I right?

So maybe this is another wishful thinking of BF/JF to dazzle investors?

As per JF's comments on talent at Ford, I must say that talent is already escaping through the front door. At this pace, Ford will get only deadwood and discontented workers. We'll see if hiring workforce outside of NA is really cheaper and better, or we'll end bringing contractors to actually do the work for us. I'd bet on the latter.

Can Ford go back to the days when the product spoke for itself and CEO just demonstrated great leadership, but let others do the talking and self promotion?

Ford can’t do anything right, including hiring the right “talent.”
