Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The Woodlands

I am no longer with Exxon. Since departing my health has improved dramatically. The Woodlands as many know has an extensive trail network that is a huge plus. I am jogging and biking on the trails and have been going to the gym. Once a week I drive to the coast with my wife to picnic on the beach and walk in the warm water.

Texas is Paradise. I have visited Seattle and California for interviews and I am not impressed. The LA area is beautiful but is very expensive and now a homeless haven.

The Woodlands TX schools are not that bad compared to public schools in Seattle, Los Angles and San Francisco.

Our family will stay in Texas.

EM people are so delusional! Everything about you has to be great! Where you live, the corporation share price, your work processes, your technology.
BS. People pay better elsewhere, whoever stayed with EM stock in the last 10 years lost money, the computer systems are archaic, the technology is middle of the road, Woodlands is a reflection of who you are: don’t give a cr-p about your kid’s education - they will go to A&M anyway, play ball and be hired by a Texan company - love your bubble, all you care is your money. Oh yes, also go to your conservative church pretending to be Christian and complain about taxes.

Yes, The Woodlands is a great place to live if you work for EM , until you become financially independent and retire…..then you move to your personal paradise. Worked for me and plenty of others. Life is good. Ah!

The whole Houston area is a S-ho-e. Truly the “Armpit” of Texas. (moist and smelly).

I lived in Spring during my short sentence at the HC. Found TW to be overpriced, out of date and not that great.

Gone from EM, so DGAF.

I grew up in LA. What part is beautiful?

As an EM retiree, I agree with you about The Woodland. Living on the 4th tee box of the TWTPC, life is indeed good. We have been here since ‘84. In all these years we’ve seen the place go from strength-to- strength.

Yes I agree that Redmond, Bellevue and Issaquah schools are very good. However, look at the price of housing in those areas compared to Houston. I currently have a swimming pool and a big lawn. Paying 1.5 million plus for a house that is in many cases 12-15 feet next to next house is ridiculous.

If you’re comparing schools in The Woodlands to schools in Seattle or LA, you’re making the wrong comp.

Compare them to schools in Redmond and Bellevue and you’ll find it’s a pretty one sided comparison.

Woodland schools are fine, but given the demographics they should be significantly better — they’re not even among the best in the Houston metro.
