Curious case in GTS

There is a curious case in GTS. Certain someone was hired as sr engg fresh out of college after completing internship. Sr engg calls for 10 years of experience. Also band 6 and above are entitled for the work phones in GTS. This certain someone already has work phone still being in band 7. Why? Any clues.

Cell phone aside, which WHY would anyone want to be that connected to work....
The hiring happens alot due to the market - they had to offer that level to keep them. Seems high though coming from an intern..

but then again, HR is only consistent when dealing with employees - execs get what they want, no matter the rules.

Lol worry about your self. I've never met someone that doesn't have a work phone. How else do you call people? That must be some old policy from when people had desks and a desk phone.

I'm in GTS as band 8 and have a work phone. You should be entitled to a work phone regardless. I came from a band 9 position outside of GTS and was given my work phone then, but when I accepted my new position my now-manager asked if I had one. So I would've been given one regardless.

But this still begs the question... why the he-l does it matter what band gets what? Running out of things to complain about so we're having to reach for the furthest bu-----t we can find? Also, good on them for getting hired right out of their internship. Sr Engr also doesn't call for anywhere near 10 years experience. They require 4+ years OR a bachelor's degree. If you were referring to Sr. Manager then yes, most likely 10 years or Masters Degree.

Let's move on folks

IT has a 4Q and 1Q RIFs every year and one of the reasons given is the expense budget has been cut. Since the expense budget is an issue every year, the company should not be handing out company phones to anyone below band 6.

Company phones should be used for company business, thus the name "company " phone. Its not based on whether your a level 8, level 7 or 6, you can have a company phones, as long as your director approves and its needed to perform your job. And as far as the company tracking you its no different than a company issued laptop, desktop.

i am former IT. you ever wonder why your brand new company issued phone's battery drains so fast? ever wonder why it runs slow? cause there are keyloggers and spy apps on there. your privacy is being violated! they can turn the camera on remotely!

before 2010 when smartphones were new it was cool to be issued a company phone. now its an electronic handcuff. why would anyone want one? i can get a free phone and $25 unlimited service thru a little known company called Visible.

Maybe they came through the leadership development program that is intern ajacent. They start off at higher bands. They could also just be really good at whatever verizon needed.

company issued phone is not a privilege but a punishment. they can and do track your usage and location.

go to the wrong website or call out of the country and you can get in trouble.

I was hired fresh out of college a few years ago and I was band 8, I started at the bottom pretty much. It could be that HR is desperate and is luring young engineers in. I saw an email that says if you can refer someone with XYZ skills, and this person gets hired, you get $5k. I should probably look for a different position with a higher band.

Band 7 should not have cell phones.

Band 7 is exactly the correct entry point. It's pretty wide. And everyone in my group has a work phone. Most are band 7. Nothing to see here. I hope the new guy works-out.

I thought Sr Eng. was a band 6 title?
I'm sure that they had some qualification the company was looking for. Not necessarily an educational or work experience or certification qualification, there are other checkboxes that must be checked, too.

Either nepotism or the intern has some dirt. Or they’re just that good.
