Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Some of you need to retire

There are quite a few people who've been here for far too long and have lost their drive. Most of you could easily retire already, so I can't understand why you don't. If I was in that position, I couldn't wait to be able to spend more time with my family and on my hobbies. If you enjoyed your jobs it'd be one thing, but most of you are not. Why wait?

UT Austin is not in the same league as MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Melon, Cornell and Columbia. No way would those Ivy League level grads come to this "has been", washed out, deplorably managed company. If they were to be hired, they'd leave within a year after dealing with the nepotism, favoritism and lack of vision of the current middle/executive management team (as well as the horrible first line managers). If they do a complete revamp of management -and I mean complete- with only Ivy League talent then yes, I could see Dell Technologies being this utopic powerhouse into the next century.

Life is too short to dedicate your “drive” to your job. I wish I learned that earlier. I put in 60+ hour weeks, 1000% effort, went the extra mile… and guess what? The people leaving early who put in 2% effort got the same compensation AND got to spend more time with their friends and families.

So another word for “people with no drive” is “smart”. Trying to win at the rat race is a fool’s game.

Indeed!! After I left EMC (now DELL) I got 100% salary increase and I am working from home full time. I enjoy my time with the kids and wife a lot.. Not mentioning I am working on very interesting stuff. What a wonderful life!! I want it to continue forever..

"Im riding this train until they kick me off with a cushy severenane.(sic) "

This year the conductor is coming through and checking tickets. Show your ticket or get off the train. The bar car is closing. No smoking rule is being enforced.

@2nfn+1fYOgdyp I agree and that's why for past 4 years I've been doing less than 1% and in that time. In past 4 years I've won a gold and platinum award along with a couple nice bump rasies.

Crazy the less you do the better you get paid.

Im riding this train until they kick me off with a cushy severenane.

Sure let me hop on over to HP as a 55 year old. Maybe they will see that I will work for them long term for 5 years before I retire. Solid idea. I didn't want to have Dell's match in my 401k anyways so I don't mind losing over $100k from my retirement.

Everyone over 48 should be retiring from DELL and looking for something else if he or she does not want to stay at home. DELL is already actively recruiting the best grads from places like MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Melon, Texas Austin, Cornell and Columbia. There is no doubt that with such kinds of recruits DELL will maintain its lead over the competition and will stay a top-notch company making products which are result of cutting-edge research and innovation!

Because the economy sucks, with COVID you shouldn't really travel out of the country and even from state to state. So stay at the job and do as little as you can for the same money as the a-ho-e who works 60 hour weeks. THATS WHY, We older people are smart !
