Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

What is wrong with recruiting?

I am starting to see objectionable trends. Requisitions sitting for months. Managers who cannot make up their mind. I will leave the DEI component out of it. It assume it’s also part of the issue. Keep to topic.

The best people have left. New people are not accepting offers to work here.

Everyone who is left is either looking for another job, or is nearing retirement.

Some day they'll make a study of this in some high dollar business school.

Maybe there aren't enough candidates in their few hub locations. I am in a nonhub location and basically told don't bother to apply because you will get thrown out of the pool. Doesn't matter how qualified.

Working as intended

I read this and the responses and I am genuinely sad. So much talent ... gone, or a foot out the door.

Let's be honest. WF has historically hired great people across the board. I've worked for two giant divisions here and the talent is (was?) extraordinary.

SO depressing. If we were in Japan, Charlie would feel compelled to take a samuri sword to the gut to admit responsibility for this mess - and it is a management mess. But we know Charlie is more of a corrupt Putin oligarch bi--h.

"And if they are looking for something more specific, in the time they waste getting somebody up to speed, they could have more than adequately gotten the first "almost" qualified applicants up to speed."

I shouldn't multitask this late at night. I meant, in the time they waste reposting, they could have gotten somebody up to speed.

I am actively looking and some competitors are just as bad as us. Others, I have gotten responses from in a couple of days. What I do notice is some positions I applied for that I am truly qualified for, being re-posted without so much as a first round interview. I know it happens here too. What are these recruiters or managers doing? Why are they not talking to people who have the qualifications they are looking for (side note: spoke with a career coach who said you don't want to have more than 80% of qualifications or you will be seen as over qualified)? And if they are looking for something more specific, in the time they waste getting somebody up to speed, they could have more than adequately gotten the first "almost" qualified applicants up to speed.

I've been waiting a month to get a recruiter assigned. more positions then people then when we finally start interviewing we take so long to get to an offer stage that the candidate is gone by the time we make them an offer. it isn't just wells either. lots of other companies striggling with the same issues.

From the perspective of a candidate, the dysfunction in recruiting can be really demoralizing.

Dude, I hate to break it to you.

We are NOT the new UHG, Goldman, Chase et al that are notorious for bad management and disarray. WE WERE THE THOUGHT LEADER for them 25 years ago.

Sheesh show some pride of accomplishment here.

We aren’t allowed to hire anyone from the US, only contractors and more people in India.
We are headed down a dark path with leadership thinking the way they are.

There’s too much noise in the market, making it hard to grab candidates’ attention.

That's why recruiting is struggling.

I'm a 20 year architecture employee in no hurry to leave, but no intent on staying here either. I am passively waiting to be recruited out of here. I do read the daily recruiter emails and LI messages. The only reason I have not left is me being lazy (complacent?) and hoping things will get interesting again.

We keep hearing there are 50-100 open roles in EA, but I am only seeing a steady exodus of architects quitting or retiring (Lending has been hammered, no one left except brand new managers). No fresh meat.

MV (EA head) blamed it on the recruiter yesterday, but I say BS. Word is out. We are the new UHG, Goldman, Chase et al that are notorious for bad management and disarray.

There is something much bigger going on. Projects across the board and work in general has slowed. Funding has vanished. Is it really a restructuring to product cabinets and the cloud? Did we go all-in and are in over our heads yet again? We do have experience with that.

While we are in what is hopefully a temporary state, my advice is take advantage of all the free training and certifications (Pluralsight and A Cloud Guru if in technology). Maybe you will find a passion and get placed on a supposed cloud project, or like me, hope to get recruited out.

Here is another frustrating part of rto. Rooms that had video conferencing have had it removed, why??? So we go to separate offices but want to video conference between locations and now cannot do that? What in the world!

Where's one these HR experts who always correct people on actual process to enlighten us what recruiting is really seeing?

We just had a candidate cancel an interview, having accepted another offer. Think of all the work involved in getting a candidate to the interview stage.

“The manager is eager to fill the role,” but months go by. Being kept in the dark is a rollercoaster.

People don’t want to work at Wells anymore. The culture is toxic, the company is in disarray, management is absent or doesn’t have a clue. Where exactly is this company headed?? Likely into the history books.

It may also be they are super desperate for people. As in, there are not enough applicants. I work at WF. About 2-3 times a week, random recruiters reach out to see if I want to work at WF.....

Hiring manager here - funding is getting cut at the last minute for all sorts of things. Open reqs cancelled while in progress or while in decision.

Add that to the usual not enough people working in any part of the process and it puts a new twist on what was already a pretty drawn out activity here.
