I don't get people who're still here after not receiving a proper (or any) raise for years. Staying means you're telling them you are satisfied enough with your job as it is or desperate enough to keep it at any cost. In either case, they have no reason to give you a raise. You are now at the point where you'll have to move companies to get a proper increase.

I think the challenge is most want to depart oil and gas but don’t have any in demand skills.
By the time you reach age 50, you aren’t working for the paycheck as much as you are the lump sum pension payment (pot of gold at the end of the rainbow). It’s amazing what you are willing to put up with when millions hang in the balance.
I went 3 years without a raise so I decided to give myself a raise and left
By the time you didn't get any salary increase, you probably unemployable outside of EM, and hence it will not be easy for you to find another job...so you will be forced to stay until EM PIP you or take early retirement...can't you see that age discrimination is a big thing in EM?
Staying between 55 and 60 just makes economic sense as 5% of Lump Sum penalty is reduced each year.
Revoke that penalty rule and instantly all 55 to 60 employees would turn in retirement notice that day.
Or we have been here for decades and just need to get this done.

People are so usleess on any other job they are forced to stay with xom.. A vicious cycle
