Just heard from an extremely reliable, highly placed VP that on the earnings call tomorrow RTP will be expanded to another 3 buildings to house all the CTO’s, Business Architects and all pooled resources. They don’t know about that security sales VP lady though…

Similar to Sydney TAC, they shut most of the building down and only have the labs left. They will vacate one of the labs and consolidate most of the gear into the St. Leonard's Level 6 lab.

Word is RTP is opening in March. Get ready to mask up!

E-mails are going out telling people to register for a time slot to come clean out their desks before March. Many people transitioned from "traditional" workers to "remote" workers, so we had to give up our desks. I was one of those. For those keeping a desk, but moving between buildings as they close down Bldg 4 - 6 for "office workers" and turn them into special use buildings, they need to pack up their stuff for the move(s). For those keeping their desks and not moving to a different building, they are being encouraged to "clean up" and get rid of obsolete equipment, papers, etc.

I sort of get closing bldg 5 for office work as the ground floor/basement level was larger conference rooms and the cafe. Easy enough to renovate the upper floors and make more large conference rooms. I don't really recall what's in Bldg 4, but I spent years working in Bldg 6. I moved 3 times in that building as they renovated areas and had just settled into my "final" destination post renovations in Dec '19 and then suddenly had to go home in Mar '20 and finally clean out my desk in Sept '21. I have no idea what "special functions" they're going to put into Bldg 6 as it was gutted through most of Fall/Winter '18 and Spring/Summer/Fall of '19 to replace large 8'x8' cubes with small 4'x6' cubes.

It's NO surprise how badly screwed up this process is. The email about the desk cleanup, while long, has very little details and lots of links to SharePoint pages which are just as confusing. There's a link to "join" a Webex space to ask the cleanup/move coordinators and it's full of questions that are getting different answers from the various coordinators. It's a total charlie foxtrot.

Masks aren't required in North Carolina.

I think that depends on where you are at. I still see businesses with signs up saying that due to the city's mask requirement, masks are still required in their stores. And Cisco can certainly require masks if they want to. Frankly, if I had to go back into the office at full capacity in those tiny 4'x6' cubes with no walls to separate me from my "neighbors", I'd be wearing a mask all day. If they keep the occupancy levels down and give people plenty of room to separate, then I'd probably just keep a mask handy for elevator use, small meetings in the tiny audio/visual privacy rooms, etc.

RTP to shut down 6 buildings when they realize nobody wants to come into the office anymore and is perfectly happy working from home

What proof do you have of this? I would love to see your face when summer starts and RTP is still there. These posts shouldn't be anonymous, because anyone could just make any annoying prediction with no consequences.

"Prediction - Buildings 3,4,5 & 6 will be sold"
Nope. Building 5's DC/NOC are too important. 3 and 4 could go though.

"You can't relocate the labs"

You sir are very naive. Finance people just don't care about labs, they've long been written off the books.

Môrons. No way it’s shutting down. Agree with RTP as the new SV… about to be a resurgence of tech entering RTP

SJC would be more likely to go away due to infinite covid shutdown in California. RTP is going to be the new Silicon Valley since CA is so messed up and no one wants to live there anymore (or can't afford to live there). Please leave your voting habits in CA please. Google and Apple are building campuses in RTP... no way this area is shrinking.

Prediction - Buildings 3,4,5 & 6 will be sold (I don't see 1 & 2 being thrown away). Any employees assigned to those buildings will be folded into the 10-12 complex. RTP is not going anywhere but it would make sense to reduce. After all there is a push now to put folks into downtown Atlanta at the Coda complex. The should help bring in younger folks without blatantly discriminating against folks that live in the suburbs with families. Might backfire on them (as even the younger folks are enjoying the ability to work remote and not deal with what would be an hour and a half commute) but we will see.

I just checked the latest version of v2momma’s racetrack ppt slide for signs of RTP. . . . OMG. The whole campus is gone !!!

Makes sense for the company to close down all but sales offices. Probably would save a pretty penny.

RTP is the disaster recovery site for SJC. That means all the data centers are needed. There's also a lot of labs in the various buildings.

You can't relocate the labs into the buildings with the data centers because those buildings are at capacity for electrical load.

In the year 2000, summer, it was the first day they hired 100 blue badges at one site - in one day. That was RTP. How times change.

RTP is already shutdown for 2 years. Did you not notice? The real question should be will it ever reopen.

Ah! You know there's actually some amount of truth this time. VPs have been asked to provide an exact count of employees working in RTP. Not a drill.
