Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What’s happening at ABS?

Lots of org changes. Are there spin-offs or outsourcings in the BU?

It’s impossibly comical watching “clueless” union people with MAYBE 1% knowledge of Business Services as a whole posting comments here. I mean c’mon, they can’t even be bothered to go look up their department in webphone (Business Field Services - BTW) and realize they are just a single cog in the big wheel of Business Svcs (especially the LNS folks - I.e. Network Technical Specialist). If it was up to me, I’d send all that LNS stuff back over the fence to Core Network Operations, where it belongs, tomorrow. Don’t need ya and don’t want ya.

The problem with ABS is and I’m speaking as an on the front lines technician, it gives away expensive cable and other necessary hardware for installations. I don’t know if those costs are built into the contracts, but the NTS technicians do not itemize their cable when closing orders that could all be billable. They don’t itemize any hardware they utilize during an installation and it should all be billable. ABS could be a great money making machine, but it is so poorly managed with too many managers that are clueless!

There is no way a business unit can have too many "managers". WE need them so they can tell us what is needed. Techs have no idea what is needed to install service...

Margins in ABS are awful, barely covering cost, much less overhead. The golden goose is consumer mobility...everything else is a losing annuity.

ABS is running on all cylinders and making money for the company, but it also has very high operating costs that T doesn’t seem to be too concerned with. Less work is being outsourced and techs are kept busy in various areas of the country, but not all areas. It should get busier, but no guarantees!

Less work more people works for me! The less work I have to do the longer I might stick around. Full-time paycheck for part-time work, 10-15 hours per week!

ABS is growing in out of region areas of the country, however, it’s been very, very slow for the last six months or so. Not sure why they’re growing the head count when the work isn’t there to support the techs. If someone announced a layoff, that would make more sense than hiring more techs, that’s how slow business is!

A lot of infighting about who's the boss. This is turning into the ultimate power struggle.
