Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Diversity at Chevron

Honestly Chevron is slowly becoming less diverse if you look at the definition of diverse. Slowly but surely there are fewer and fewer white individuals in many positions. Having many different races represented is great and I support it but if there are hardly any white males left over time is the company truly diverse?

@1lzk, Incorrect. My wife, a professional, refers to herself and others like that regularly when discussing diversity, the topic of this thread. You're dead wrong.

@whi And what happened when you woke up? Just an FYI, no woman will refer to herself as female. If you see that, you know immediately it's somebody impersonating a woman or lying. If you're going to be telling lies, at least do it right.

It’s not just diverse. He said “visibly diverse”. So it’s based off of appearance. Didn’t know they could do that.

Guess that’s why the ones I know or at least the ones in our group who get all the Cush jobs and promotions are usually fairly attractive. Wonder if the unattractive ones get passed over based off of visible appearance.

Though we wanted the best boss for the job not the best box checker.

I know sports teams don’t pick their Players off of boxes

“Slowly but surely there are fewer and fewer white individuals..”

7/10 people working at Chevron are white. About 6.5/10 people in America are white.

So…

White people are actually overrepresented at Chevron, to the tune of 5% greater than the national average. I personally don’t care what anyone looks like as long as I get my paycheck.

@rgc

Disagree. The majority of the king ding a lings are white males but then again there were very few quota people who were working 30 years ago in O&G and a lot of the ones that were have taken the packages or have decided to raise families. Heck my wife was in oil and gas a long time ago and decided to stay home with the kids. Imagine where I would be now if she continued to work. She would have been VP and I would have been a kept man

I can tell you in my area there are few white males left after the transformation.

I once asked a Managing Director how she got promoted so fast (about 10 years from PSG25-41) and she laughed and said "to be honest it was mostly just because I'm female!". Another lady manager nearby was furious at this response.

There was a lady who worked in a group on our floor. They announced the new manager for the group. I went and congratulated her. I said all that hard work over the years finally paid off.

She said, no it’s because there were no other females in the group. She openly admitted she should not be the leader.

*confused face
I'm not a fan of promoting based on quotas, but what in the world are you talking about? Pretty sure the majority of Chevron is still made up of white males.
