Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford leadership on GSR/ LL6 bonuses: "Let Them Eat Cake"

While the salary worker bees get nearly nothing for supporting and trying to fix all the problems caused by our incompetent leadership - these same "leaders" walk away with bags of money. Kumar has nothing more to add then they will do "Focus Groups" on what to do in the future". Our hands are tied as you signed up for this... UHHH no we didn't, we did NOT get a say, this is created and implemented by you - Ford's leadership. Clearly to rob the workers and pad your bank accounts.

I wrote a software package called AICP54 for all GSR/LL6 computers (PC or Mac) which:

  • Retains only 54% of the emails received or sent.
  • Keeps only 54% of meeting notices
  • Only 54% of created email content is sent.
  • Only 54% of verbal content is sent over web conferencing systems.
  • Only 54% of content typed on IM is sent.
  • Only a random portion of 54% of any documents created is retained.
  • Contains a random 54% of any internal web sites created.
  • Contains a random 54% of videos created.

This should properly reflect the performance of this community.

Believe actions not words.

It is curious how Ford employees can defend the mistreatment of other employees, and then are shocked when Ford mistreats them.
I heard many people say these things:

  • the retirees don’t deserve healthcare, because I won’t have healthcare.
  • the retirees don’t deserve a pension, because I don’t have a pension
  • group X deserves to be off-shored / out-sourced
  • the SRD deserved to get laid off, because I don’t have promotional opportunities
  • the older men should all be laid off, because I don’t have promotional opportunities

Many of the people saying these things are not stellar employees, but they feel entitled.

I don’t know how to fix Ford, or if it is even worth fixing.
Management prefers to have the masses fighting amongst themselves so the actions at the top are not noticed.

If you have skills, get out. Otherwise, Ask not for who the bells toll, it tolls for thee.

The whole AICP is a sham. Thats why it was created. It’s rigged so we don’t get 100%. If bonuses were pre AICP it would be too much for GSR/LL6 and not enough for our so called leaders.

I almost feel bad for the LL6s that have to implement this. Sure, they might be able to toss a little extra to 1 employee, but skilled people that are motivated to look will find better opportunities elsewhere.

If you are really capable, you should leave. If Doug Field had not left Ford, would he get his current position? Ford just announced the hiring of 35 year old Alan Clarke from Tesla. If Alan had started in Ford, he would be likely in the 54% category.

Why would any GSR not look to move to GM? I suppose some LL6s think they will move into the LL5 ranks, but why accept significantly lower pay. Between retirements and skilled people leaving this year, good luck LL5+.

Replying to...
I DO NOT want to ever hear one more word out of their thieving mouths about "One Ford" "People First", "Build Trust", "Behaviors", "One Team", "Live Your Values", "Be Transparent"...and on and on. We no longer believe a word out of your lying, greedy, self-serving mouths.

The People Matters Manager in Oakville is useless. Doesn't respond to inquiries in person or by email. She needs to find another job. HR in Oakville think they are above the law. War criminals get prosecuted decades after their crimes. Will be interesting when the legal system holds them accountable for their actions.

I was at the company when they enacted the AICP, and never quiet understood the method to the madness. To me it should reflect the bottom line of the income statement, nothing more. That is how it was in 99 when profit sharing was distributed to the employees (to that matter a hefty one because the company still knew to a certain extent wtf it was doing). These metrics albeit part of the bottom line ARE NOT THE BOTTOM LINE. At least the bottom line gives the company a shared goal (IE someone in Finance cannot effect quality metrics, and likewise someone in engineering cannot prevent a C suite from making horrid investment choices in all these startups due to FOMO). Look at all these new groups made in the last 5 years that don't do anything for the bottom line but add excessive overhead due to the shear number of executives that sit in these organizations (EPLM, DFord, Team Edison, heck even Lincoln [it made me cringe when they did the Lincoln 100year thing, what an utter waste of company resources that whole brand has become], etc.) All really contributing nothing other than making PowerPoints and coming in for the launch party like they did the real work.

I will give you my synopsis. They have finally ran out of rope and are 100ft off the ground. Our market share is sh-t, our products are un-affordable, and frankly they have driven our core customer into the arms of other competitors. In another 10years our company will be nothing but a niche, and then what? Who would even want to buy us?

Well, I have seen morale at all highs and lows in this company. But do they really expect people to believe the BS that came out of the meeting today? I am sorry but Billy and Jim are not worth a buck. Billy personally led the purchase of the train station. World's largest crack house. So why did he receive $11mn for that sc--w up? Jim Farley is supposed to be a car guy! Maybe in his own mind he is, because he has been in charge of marketing since he was hired in and all I see was our market share decline. Now you want to be a data miner. Yeah, like people really love to be pestered with pop-ups. So, wander we gave up on cars. Both of these men Lack Vision and a Plan. They lack courage to come out and tell the truth. Well, I put in my notice. Jim you are not hype nor are you cool. Infact, you do not even believe the bs you spew from the teleprompter. Infact you would be lost without it. You are "BORING" and a Joke.
I feel sorry for those that depend on that place. So, I close my chapter and move on. BTW Jim I took the lump sum. I don't want to leave you with anything.

Unionizing isn’t the answer? Do your research. Union leaders salaries are not higher than GSRs. That is just not true. Maybe compared to the hourly worker on the line.

I feel for folks - honestly do. Left Ford, and no longer have to hear the excuses on why AICP is peanuts (compared to our real competitors GM, Chrysler or the UAW) while management gets full bonus because Ford needs to keep the leaders from leaving, when by every metric they collectively failed to lead. Never appreciated the ridiculous heart to hearts made by the bad news squads.

There are many engineers unionized at Stellantis. All those LL5+ have contracts with the company. Wake up.

I honestly was giving Ford management the benefit of doubt, as I was thinking the 135% vs 54% was a joke rumor and not true in the slightest. Boy was I totally wrong. The 135% is a joke truth.

Poor Kumar is the fall guy as usual, but I absolutely blame him too as he has to be a big part of that absurd decision to reward themselves so much $$$.

I dont ever recall taking a survey asking how I wanted the AICP calculated. Does anyone here recall or took this mysterious survey that I missed???

Well, as if on queue, Kumar the whipping boy took to the stage to help deliver the bad news. It showed he wanted out of there quick fast in a hurray and all of this from that hypocrite who calls himself a leader. Make no mistake he couldn't care less.

If you look at the trend since 2013, it has largely been lower and lower payouts since then with very few years paying 100%. It's clear they're cooking this to their advantage because it's a huge cost savings- and easy to do because they're tied to vagaries with no transparencies. All we know how to do is cut costs and how often do you hear, "Find an offset?" We are the offset! Make no mistake that he'll come back to us with we're not changing anything with the AICP because our overall compensation strategy is correctly aligned to our strategic priorities and that it's competitive among our peer group. Just watch.

We'll know they're getting serious about a completive AICP when see them tie it to EBIT and that alone. They can't can't fudge that down and they would have to be transparent. We would know if they were unattainable from the start. If they were to manipulate that downward, the stock would get punished. Disgusting.

You want to get back at the company and have a voice. Join a union.

I sure hope they do the right thing and take another look at this but I know they won't. Upper management in this company is absolutely clueless. Morale was in the toilet and they just flushed it.

The bonus payment for engineers is much more in GM than Ford every year even if 100% target is achieved in Ford. GSRs seems to be ok with it.

I was surprised that GSRs’ reactions to the 54% are so strong this year. I guess it’s due to 135% for LL5+.

The explanation that we asked for this was absurd. I don’t remember checking a box to select NA. Nor do I remember the company explaining why NA only AICP is in our best interest. Total sc--w job. All respect lost.

GSRs in Ford are treated very unfairly. Nothing will change without significant pressure on the upper management. GSR unionizing movement will have the pressure on the management.

Unionizing isn't the answer. The problems in the company are the same problems in the union. All you do is double your problems. Nepotism. Cronyism. Good ol' boys network. All part of the union brass as well. Union bosses get big fat salaries, little responsibility, and get bonuses that dwarf the rank and file. It is kind of like having trouble with your spouse. The worse decision is to go out and get involved with someone else. Now you just have two problems!

An issue is unlikely to be solved without finding the root cause. The root cause of this issue is that GSRs have no union.

UAW gets basically double than that of the 54% the GSR/ LL6 get. Remember, if not for the work of these folks, there would be nothing for the UAW to build. So there's that. LL5+ get 135% which is because of the work of the GSR / LL6 that again only get 54%. So, circle that square for me at its most basic level beyond the backroom AICP calculation games management is clearly playing.

And now once gain they will roll down their objectives to these same people they just screwed over. So really what this is - is to work yourself into the ground to meet our objectives so we can get a huge bonus, while this same effort gets you peanuts. And they really think this plays well for them. Tell me more about those "One Ford Behaviors". Clearly nothing but window dressing.
