Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford-Tesla competition

I don't know what would have to happen for someone to move from Tesla to Ford. I wouldn't mind going from Ford to Tesla if I had a chance, but vice versa. I don't think I would do that.
Doesn't this newspaper headline sound weird to you - https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/ford/2022/02/10/top-tesla-engineer-alan-clarke-hired-ford-electric-vehicles/6735225001/ ?
or this one: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/ford-swore-to-overtake-tesla-and-it-started-with-its-talents-181457.html ?

My bet is they run him dry for ideas and defining Tesla's practice/process and after 10-12 months just let him go.

Good comment. This is exactly how I viewed Farley when he came to Ford. I actually liked the fire in him then, so I fell for it. Now he bows down to Bill's orders and is a total pushover. I thought Jim could do better.

More money for less work. A wise man. Walk around with a cup of coffee saying "At Tesla, we would do x" , then leave work promptly at 3:30 pm, while talking about how he got in at 6 am.

Elon isn’t happy with Clarke’s work. Before Elon could fire him, Clarke wised up and moved on. Elon is very hard to please and work with.

Ford is an attractive employer for people who want to emit a lot of hot air while doing very little, if any, work. This guy will either figure out quickly that he doesn’t want to be at Ford, or he will settle into boast and coast mode.

In the Metro Detroit area Ford is a well known dumping ground for minimally skilled workers. The interviews are not technical interviews so anyone with a pulse and reasonable grooming and behaviors gets in. Once in they are not released once it is discovered that they are unskilled and lazy.

He's a spy. He'll take trade secrets back to Elon aftera couple of years. Bill and Jim are being played like fools.

@OP. I am sure Mr. Clarke received a very good monetary compensation for the switch. Also, it is highly probable that the compensation came with some career advancement in the form of a higher position.

Allegedly, Clarke will be reporting to Mr. Field, who is reporting to Farley, which makes Mr. Clarke an LL3, and while I cannot map the position of director of Engineering of new vehicles in Tesla, probably the guy was an LL5 in there.

Now, here is what it is going to happen. First of all, lack of leadership. Mr. Clarke will have to deal with the whims of Bill, and adapt his "creation" to whatever stupid idea comes from the Ford family. In time, he'll realize Ford is full of sh-t and Farley being a good CEO is just a huge PR campaign.

Secondly, it is easier to manage a team of highly motivated and knowledgeable people (Tesla), than a demoralized Ford team, where half of the team is playing the politic games, instead of working (and cannot be touched because they are in the friends and family plan), while the other half is comprised of FCGs and woke selected people. The people that held the knowledge at Ford are retired, working in another company or pushed aside for the new woke people.

Therefore, Mr. Clarke is going to start missing deadlines, as he is working his a-s off, trying to prove himself in the new position, but it won't work. As soon his contract allows him, he'll be leaving to another company. Or he'll be "Fordized": playing the politic games, brown nosing the Ford family, cashing $$$ while not doing anything of value, you know, a regular Ford executive.

Ford to Tesla - this would require you to work for a living.
Tesla to Ford - easy money (but not much profit sharing!!)!!
