Thread regarding Ford layoffs

If you know somebody who's planning on joining Ford

Would you welcome them and congratulate them or would you warn them off?

Some areas are better than others. I think it has a lot to do with how ambitious your LL*’s are and what the tone is for the group.

@1cit+1fgzFxN If you love your job, wouldn’t your time be better spent posting fawning comments on Ford intranet and/or the frequent freep articles on Farley. So that Farley and all your co-workers know how much you love Ford?

No @qld+1fgzFxNJ I’m not brown-nosing. I actually love my job and Ford. I actually work hard and am challenged every day. And for those people here that are retired or working elsewhere, yet continuing to come to this website to complain about a prior employer- you all really need to move on. Clearly you are obsessed with Ford, but find a better use for your time.

@crl+1fgzFxNJ Has a point for those workers who just show up and collect a paycheck. Ford is a grand place to work for that class of workers. Absolutely the best place in Michigan to get paid for doing nothing.
For those who actually want to learn, grow and accomplish things, Ford is a horrible place to work. They get frustrated as a 2 hour one person task turns into a year long project with a PM and 35 people all attending daily meetings to report on why they haven’t accomplished jack. Every year spent at Ford you are going backwards in your career as you not only are wasting a year of skill growth, you are also absorbing bad work habits.

I keep in contact with people who have moved on from Ford. The talented hard working people are happy they left Ford. The rest complain about how they actually have to work 8 hours a day, only have 2-3 weeks of vacation a year. And omg they are held accountable for their objectives and results.

Prime example of the brown nosers people are referring to: crl+1fgzFxNJ

It’s really sad, but Ford was a great place to be in the early to mid 90’s. Certainly the best by far of the “American three” car companies. Then, starting in the early 00’s, Ford management started to change, seemingly driven from the top down. It took a while for this to completely wipe its way through the organization, but at this point you have a place that reflects what others have posted…technical competence and hard work are not valued, brown nosing and quotas are. Some call it “socialism”, I guess. Many bewildering decisions made along the way, ki----g the Ranger for example, and letting the Windstar/Freestar die like plant without water, back in the days when people still wanted mini vans. Numerous incompetent attempts to do something with Lincoln products. The debacle of the DPS6 transmission. The list goes on and on. Now, we have all the uncertainty around how to handle the transition to electric vehicles. Would you trust this company to navigate through that? I guess to answer the original question, absolutely no way I would recommend this company to a young person. Run, as fast as you can, and don’t look back!

My son was hired in as agency a few months ago. His Ford manager loves him, allegedly. He’s being told that he will be converted to a full time Ford employee. I asked him if he was interested. He told me, “Dad, I’ve watched how Ford has treated you for over 30 years. There’s no way I would take a permanent position with this company.”

Well, it's their funeral. Everybody needs dough. As long as they are able to decouple from reality, they should do fine.

Congratulate them. This is by far the best job I’ve ever had. I honestly wake up every day and am thankful to finally work at a place I love. You people constantly bi-----g and moaning on here have no idea what life is like outside this company. I’ve worked for terrible organizations. You have no idea how good you have it. The number of holidays, vacation, the amazing benefits. I scratch my head every time I read a negative post and just conclude you must be a miserable human that wouldn’t be happy anywhere. I love Ford and I will continue to recruit people here because this company changed my life.

If you want to work in a complete socialist Utopia, Ford is for you.

Ford is run by clowns who only take care of themselves. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.

If you want to work with a true team who’s goals are aligned and be rewarded for your hard work and value, stay clear.

As in ALL companies It depends on the department. The comments I see here on this board describe almost all the companies I have been too. With the exception of very small companies, I only worked at one left and relocated. Wish I could've stayed. When the owner is sitting in the break room and you can just talk, it makes a big difference. It seems like these big companies, turn into a highschool run by highschool kids.

Congratulate them. It is unlikely that they want unsolicited advice.
People will resent you for giving them sound unsolicited advice that they don’t want, don’t take and later regret not taking.

If they are the brownnosing type, they will enjoy Ford and be successful, because those are who are rewarded with advancement opps.

If this person is a great worker, talented, puts their nose to the grindstone type I would advise them to steer clear of Ford. That’s not some thing Ford appreciates nor recognizes

Be courteous and congratulate him. You don't know if he needs the money to make ends meet. It won't take long for him to see what is going on.
