I guess that’s just the way those techs roll! Not really sure what or how the voice techs operate! Perhaps, they’re just slow?
If there is not enough work for techs, why does it take at least 1 week to fix my landline? Techs don't even begin working on the trouble until the ETR date. Then they never really fix the problem and had to wait another week for the line to be fixed. Taking a total of 2 weeks. Ridiculous!
Then that’s a good thing for the techs in areas where there is limited work available to keep busy! Money for nothing is always a good thing! I see the economy affecting the work loads since the strategy was for sales to start going after the mom and pop small business owners since the major chains are already covered. With impacted supply chains and rising inflation, I don’t see small business owners making investments in their internet services anytime soon! Work will continue to be slow throughout the year sad to say.
@1ghv, my understanding is there was a labor agreement and a lawsuit settlement that said no layoffs before 2023.
Even in Business Services has it been slow, certainly not enough work to keep techs busy. Techs monthly productivity is only between 45-55%. Don’t know what kind of deal the company made with the union to keep techs on the payroll even without work, a feather in the union’s cap if that’s true!
Outside techs who are not in Businesses Services or Fiber have had no work for 5 years. 90% could be gone. You can only "clean your truck" and do "maintenance" for so long. A huge waste of $$$. Hence the stock price.
Good. Bring on the layoffs with 6 months severance!! Better yet, offer an MVO
What is this rambling about?
Layoffs will happen. They are hiring people in fiber related positions. Others will be let go. More automation will continue to a point where home routers will be shipped when service is be ordered. Business customers are building out fiber on their own. Fill that in with 5/6G wireless and more folks out the door.
Let’s get wireless- those stores will continue to close. We all like those cheap rates, but that also means less margin coming in the door.
Let’s face it, most folks have 3-5 good years left. After that, the company will look completely different.
AT&T uses layoffs (and the threat of layoffs) as a Force Management tool. They always have. And they will continue to do so. Unlike a lot of other companies who can manage their employment needs through natural attrition (job movements, resignations, retirements, deaths), AT&T uses targeted layoffs to do so.
Its a sign of pi-s-poor C-level management to use this outmoded method.

I beg to differ, 100 million people and businesses who have AT&T services think otherwise! They come to T because they believe they have the Cadillac of services provided to them!
2022 will be another 2021. There wasn't much to see in 2021.

Stop spreading rumors! There are no lay-offs coming anytime soon, not in bargained for or management. Every time I hear of a new hire, it’s in the management ranks. So, we don’t need the negativity! Unless there’s definitive knowledge of a pending lay-off, please stop spreading rumors.
