Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Is manufacturing the worst place to be at Intel?

Low pay, high stress, on-call every other week. I have trouble sleeping because of 2 AM phone calls every night about tools going down. Work 24/7 to qualify tools so a production manager can get a factory award for your work. Has anyone left manufacturing for a different business unit?

Sounds like you may be an Engineer. That's the way it goes in MFG when you are the tool owner/Engineer for your toolset. That will not change. Perhaps look for a job in MFG but not as an Engineer on the floor. There are many different positions available where they won't badger you on your time off. Retired from the industry after 38 years with 24 at Intel and the rest at National Semi. Trust me, as long as you are on the floor as an Engineer it will be stress until you get out of that position.

It is disappointing to see intel bumped the salaries of software employees. I don’t understand. Many so-called software employees do program management at intel. Lots of program managers…And so called strat planners. Most of the critical software work that requires real engineering is outsourced. So our engineering teams are actually vendor managers. Software fellows create tslrps. Not sure why they deserve more money at intel.

Keep up the WLE, no wonder Intel manufacturing suck, low yield, low output, the hard working companies have schooled you.

No need to look in the rear view mirror Pat, as you are in last place! Or did you turn around the fab and am driving backwards, LOL

yah, manufacturing is pretty rough. SW related jobs have the same pay but no on call, no nights, no weekends... pretty reasonable career job for the same pay. Manufacturing is pretty brutal. Not sure of your position or shift but for S1 we have NSE for night and the guideline is oncall once a month at the max. If you are getting pages at 2am frequently and on call every every other week it is time to complain to your manager and or switch departments. You aren't getting paid enough to deal with that sh-t
