Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How much will you need to retire from corporate America?

Will you need 1 million, 2 million, or 10 million?

@1yet+1fkicams, stop posting here and start working (so we earn more money)?

I can attest that the amount they pay me and my effort are not correlated!

(btw, I'm on PTO today so snarky comments don't apply... well, at least not today)

If everyone would stop posting these off topic topic's and commenting on them then we'd all get more work done and we'd all have 10 million dollars for retirement.

Who are the people who are down voting the numbers some have posted? Seems there are some miserable people on here jealous of others success.

according to the news a loaf of bread is going to cost about $4,000 in a few months, so 1 billion?

@aeb+1fkicams short term damage is still damage. It has been ongoing for 13 months. Expect it to be around for another 18 months. And prices from producers will not go back down. Inflation is a financial ki---r. Are you made of money? Speak for yourself.

Would have to ask first, 'when?' Healthcare is the big wildcard, it's very expensive. Other expenses are manageable.
If 65 with medicare and social security as a backdrop - i'd say $2MM to live comfortably (assuming mortgage paid off).

@jcr? @vkv here.
As others have pointed out, yes, people retire on far less. $2mil would do me extremely well, with zero lifestyle changes and assuming I live another 15-20yrs-ish. That's a stretch, for someone in my condition, but it could happen.

If you're getting at the fact that I said 'as little as $2mil' as if it's not a lot of money... then yeah... sorry but you've misunderstood my intentions. It is a lot of money, sure. But not in a thread where people are tossing around $10mil, $100mil, etc...
Trust that I lived very frugally for the first 30 years of my life and, like I say, I could live on $250k too... it just wouldn't be quite as much fun as having the $2mil+

Adding SS to 401, 1 mil is fine.

$7mm. We are at about $4mm now. Hoping to get there in 10 years when I am 55.

Many people retire every day with far less than $2 million saved. Stop being a judgements twit.

@vkv, with as little as $2M? Yeah, $2M is next to nothing. You are a tool.

Since I can’t print my own money, I am saving as much as I can and hoping for the best. There’s not much more any of us can do.

seek out the advice of a wealth manager (not one at Wells) who can help formulate what you will need to retire based on how you want to live and how much "income" you want per year when you are retired.

based on my current inputs to my portfolio and how it is set up, I am on track to "earn/live on" about $180k per year in retirement, inclusive of social security.

For $10mil I could definitely do it. I would drop everything right this second and have the very best time of my life, for the rest of my life, with zero doubts or worries. I could still do most of that with $5mil, but I would have to be a bit more precise with some things.
Honestly though... with careful attention to detail but no substantial changes to my current lifestyle... I could realistically live it up with as little as $2mil. I could also merely "exist" for less than $250k for the next 20yrs, just like millions of others are doing right now. Wouldn't be any fun at all, but I know I could do it.

With the way inflation is going likely 100 million.. Whatever it takes to save decade old unprofitable tech firms with billions in market cap.
