And yes, it's a money grab. There are rich people who own all the buildings that restaurants and other businesses lease, and if people are not in the office, they are not eating lunch at the deli, and the rich landlords are not getting their money.
This is America, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad, it's always about money.

People just need to leave these big cities and disperse to a larger area. Look at all the environmental catastrophes happening due to large, concentrated populations. Political power would also not be so concentrated. Humans can’t be trusted with power as we see from the NYC mayor.

Instead of looking for ways to be innovative and adapt to new work arrangement possibilities, leaders can only see a path forward by going back to the "old ways".
I don't know about you, but when I think of New York, I think of small, cramped city living at exorbitant costs. Just spitballing here, but if a majority of people could WFH permanently, you could renovate office spaces to turn them into apartments and condos. That would bring construction work to the city in the short term, help lower rent costs, which could put more money in the pockets of your working class who just happen to be centrally located to the best restaurants and entertainment you have to offer... So they'll be more likely to spend money at these places with their extra spending money...

The world coming out of the pandemic is very different than the one going in. Everyone from the CEO down is going to have to come to terms with that.

Filling up offices after two years is a cash grab to solidify tax revenues by picking workers pockets and trickle it up to the top of the pyramid scheme. “Leaders” have learned nothing other than cultural evolution is inconvenient for those who lack the ability and courage to adapt while continuing to innovate at a high level.
