How Long of a Notice Did You Give Before Leaving Ford?

In 2004, I didn’t give one lol. I emailed and said, “I’m not coming back.”

I “gave” 2 weeks notice but also told them I was going to a competitor so I’d be dropped same day and have myself a nice vacation prior to starting my new job. It was awesome!

I just think it's professional courtesy to give notice. Even if I feel the company is doing me wrong, it doesn't mean I can't act in a professional manner.

The best thing about retirement at Ford is the fact you can 'set' a retirement date 180 days into the future - 6 months! Plus you have 90 days to retract your intentions and say "nope - changed my mind'.....and your management has little to no say in either of those decisions. I believe in some cases you can even take the full 6 months pre-retirement and work basically part time for the full 6 months or work full time for 3 months then get paid to sit around at home for 3 months. However, this little gift does have to be approved by your leadership, so of course not available to everyone.

I've known people that have done this; for one, it was like a vacation. They basically came in and worked when they wanted to and what they wanted to work on, worked from home multiple days a week before that was even a thing, and 'trained' their replacement....who of course did all of the work after maybe two weeks of "training" This person used all the free time to start up their own business.....this is how I'd like to go out. If I think I am going to get hit with an involuntary situation, I may even try this stunt to see what would happen......certianly would cause a lot of confusion, at least. Not bitter or angry, just not in the mood to do them any favors after nearly 27 years of garbage. Wanted to ride it out until 30 years, but not sure I can or even want to anymore...as one person wrote I don't even recognize this company anymore.

I am not entirely sure they're aware I'm not currently working for them. I'll take as many deposits as they drop though!

I am still here, but it will depend on my situation. I believe the big reason for a notice, other than common courtesy, is to get paid for any accrued vacation time. Is 2 weeks notice worth 1 or 2 days vacation pay? Maybe, maybe not. 3 or more, now you are making a bigger case for a notice. If my investments hit, and I can just walk away with no notice, when I am ready to retire, they may just get a "bye, not coming in anymore, here is your POS laptop back."

I am not pension eligible. If you are then maybe you want to give a notice. Or maybe you have to. IDK, but Ford ain't giving people notices when they walk them out the door, why would anyone feel obligated to do that for them?
