Contract company for ATT…..says they are over ran with work! Fiber build must be working AND there selling it!

There is nothing wrong with using contractor workforce, Mobility has been using this model for years. Amazing how efficient folks are when they get paid by the job vs. hour. For the Fiber build to survive and be competitive, more contractors must be used. Award work and issue PO's.... that is how you move fast.
Walk out engineer for which contractor company? CableCom, Sefenco, and Quanta Telecom has that title for Comcast construction in California. MP Nexlevel has that title for AT&T construction in SF Bay Area, and Salinas. Golden State Utility does work for Frontier in Morgan Hill area.
As for AT&T, they give the heavy construction work to contractors, or make ready work; because Union boys mostly do underground placement/overpull, or aerial overlash from bucket or on poles if backyard easement. Fiber is a commodity so sales depends on availability for consumers or "fiber lit" for b2b customers.
In summary, if you work for a contractor, you'll get bottom of the barrel wages/salary vs a similar job title at the telco carriers or cable company (i.e. OSP Planner, or construction specialist).
