Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Peak year for company

Best days obviously in the past for ExxonMobil from an employee perspective. When do you think peak year was? I’m going to go with 2009. Benefits hadn’t begun their continual decline at least not that I can recall.

Enough with the BS. The hMobil culture was simply who knew whom. This is exactly the culture we currently have in EM.

Definitely Mobil pre-merger. Wish we could go back! Actually had really good lifelong friends from Mobil that wouldn’t stab you in the back since it wasn’t a competition to get a better ranking. The culture was so much better than at XOM and you actually were proud to say you worked at Mobil.

Mobil was great. Very solid, professional place to work.

Pre 99 for Mobil guys.

Mobil had a very friendly culture with no force ranking so everybody helped everybody.

EXxon put in a lot of effort to destroy the Mobil culture and put even more effort into staffing management with heritage EXxon people to preserve their good ole boy network.

@OP 2009? At what human (reduction of headcount after EM merger) cost? I largely agree with @zay+1foEGv2v - the result of later Reaganomics spurred by Milton Friedman's "economic theory".

It's a cr---y, but, big money commodity business tied to nationalistic business practices. First world countries will get in to be better businesses and leave it behind. Demand not disappearing any time soon, forget about that. Oil rich countries can enjoy their wealth and do what they will for their own people, if anything

I agree that the peak was 2008-2009. No way are we getting back to that level in terms of employee treatment and benefits. EM has now realized that O&G is a " me too" business best managed with low cost operations under off shore labor laws, as much as possible. Natural business evolution.

‘20-‘21 clearly the worst years.

The company is way more progressive right now, culturally. At least it’s positioned well.

There was a time when you could expect to be sent on an expat assignment and be compensated for it. Those days atemo-nos gone. All the relocation benefits and expat benefits have been gutted. Best days definitely behind us.

Ah the good old days when the company would pay for training. Remember when education reimbursement had no cap? Many of us got MBAs from top schools paid for by the company back then.
