Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Speaking of Check-Ins, "Priorities?" Really?

I always wonder if anyone selects "Yes" to the question:

"This week did you have a conversation with your Team Leader about your Check-in priorities?"

I mean, we don't have much work to do at Cisco, do we? Cisco is the fifth tech company I worked, but it's the most boring job I've ever had. Nothing to do, nothing to learn. Yet the company keeps hiring people, which I wonder why...

So my questions is, there is actually no "priorities" for me because I'm doing almost nothing but keep the webex status green at all times by moving the mouse in every 10 minutes so my manager and everyone can see that I am doing something at least. (I tried to change the time to be idle to "never" but that didn't work... alas...)

My manager never speaks to me except biwkly call. We never ever discuss my priorities because I don't have much work to do really.

But he told (almost forcing me) me that I always should select "Yes" to the question,

"This week did you have a conversation with your Team Leader about your Check-in priorities?"

otherwise, HR would need to discuss with me if I should resign from the company, he told me.

So I reluctantly select "Yes" every week, but back of my mind, why "Yes?" I don't feel right. It's like I am lying or something.

Even if not much work to do, should we always select Yes to stay at Cisco? Is that what we're supposed to select to survive?

I never check in. My manager gives me 30 min call every 2 months.
