Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Sign performance review before being told money

For the first time in 10 years, HRBP was on my performance review call. I got performing; however, I was told I will not get $ amts for STI & raise % until I sign my review. It’s not a good review. I got leading from same mgr 4 yrs ago. I didn’t get the appraisal text and pdf until after the call. I know I’m fuq’ed 7 ways to Sunday. I was on disability this past year; back since August. I currently work 10-12 hour days which have been detrimental to my health. I have been trying to work with accommodations. That’s fun! A 9 hour workday at Band 7 is not a possibility or guaranteed. Breaks? Hahaha

I got receipts but I’m not that person. I don’t want to be that person or pin anyone out. I said I’d sign release. I want concerns heard. I would love a package but this review says gurl no package. I’ve had 3 interviews since January for internal & 3 rejections. I think I’ve got that red flag in my file.

Everyone says I must sign. I’m assessing options. Being a disabled person working at Chipotle is not a good option. I need to get my health back to apply for outside jobs. Working on it.

Thoughts?

Not following why you have an issue with signing performance agreement. It has always been the process. When you are signing, you can comment on whether you agree or do not agree. You can provide feedback. However, refusing to sign it seem ridiculous and yes you do need to sign it to get your numbers. The fact that you got performing and you feel like you are screwed does not add it. Potentially you and your manager are no aligned. Maybe you should have those discussions with them to see where and how you can improve. Get yourself a mentor as well. If you are not having open dialog with your manager then you are part to blame too.

Same happened to me. Riffed. Now great job. Worked 12 hour days and hurt my body - what a waste. Move on.

You want to be riffed!! PIP is bad and usually just a slow collection and documentation of work related issues to have a good case to fire you without any discriminatory issues.

RIF means you get some money and you can tell perspective employers there was a RIF In your department and well that is just a thing that always happens so no biggie. Being PIP/Fired is what happens to bottom performers so isn't something you'd want to bring up to a new employer plus no payout and potentially no unemployement.

Best of luck at 55. I figure at 40 in VZ I am using a middle school level of skills in my job which so far had made it not possible to find another job. If I was younger maybe theyd care about certifications and such but not this at my advanced age.

"I would like a PIP cuz I’ve heard it’s harder to be riffed on a PIP"

There is a reason it is harder to be riffed on a PIP. Why would they pay you to leave when they could just PIP you and fire you?

managers rate the entire team from top to bottom and submit the list to their director via spreadsheet. they are limited to rating the top 10% leading unless they successfully represent the reasons their candidate(s) are deserving up the chain. difficult to do, unless the director has an additional slot in their 10% allotment. if you are at the bottom of the performing list, you'll more than likely get riffed when the opportunity arises.

Hi it’s the Leper. Thx for your posts. I would like a PIP cuz I’ve heard it’s harder to be riffed on a PIP. This review is mgmt saying bye bye bye.

We will have weekly meetings and I will be forthright about my need for her to record them. The meetings will not include HR. I will not get the $ values until I sign my PA. I was told by a colleague I do have a space for rebuttal. Crafting it now. It will end with, “I am happy to have 1:1 time with my mgr to create better processes and documentation for the entire team.”

I have skip level 1:1 with my director thurs am. I want a mentor. That’s my tactic. I won’t criticize anyone unless directly asked for feedback on that person. That has happened in the last year and a half, from our then director who dumped us on different director.

I’m 55. Finding another job is going to be hard, but not impossible. I need to get my health better in order to get out there. I need to be packaged out. I will play by the rules. Gonna try to lawyer up. Might play the disabled card as they all know about it.
Thx again. More feedback welcome.

The amounts should show up in the total reqards page thursday and sti will show on your ach tommorow for most banks.
Or are they witholding your bonus unless you sign? Sounds more like a PIP/review if that exists.
Id use the opportunity to use the job at VZ to find one outside if you have any modern skills.

I have over 60 applications since i started with VZ, I've only ever been offered 4 or 5 positions. Getting rejected doesn't mean you have a red flag in your file, it's just part of life.

Stop working 12 hour days (unless you like it and you're getting OT). Learn how when and where to say, "no".

Always make your own notes in your performance reviews. Be objective and honest, but also try to highlight positives. Ask your manager in 1:1 sessions and performance reviews, "Am I on track to get leading?" If they say yes, note that in your review. If they say no, ask, "What do I need to do to be on track for leading?" Then make a note of that and follow up by doing it, and making a record that you did it.
I've been leading most years because i do these things.

Sign your performance review. I don't understand why you wouldn't?
