Because the heavy lifters are leaving & the territorial people that shirk work & create drama are staying, for the most part.

We're way over-staffed for what actually gets done.

The problem is that all the paperwork, micro-management, and red-tape that "Agile" has brought has ground all progress to a halt.

So we have no product going out. Which means we have engineers sitting on their hands.

Something is going to have to give. I can't imagine this going on much longer. "Agile" is ki11ing us.

In tech, 13 years, I swear they are daring us to leave since last year. Laid off all our QA, guess who's QA now? Every month we get more responsibilities. Devs not willing to be full-time QA. Work has slowed to nothing. Everyone afraid to make changes, no matter how small. Implemented strike system with prod defects. Lots more red tape to get anything approved. Releases now scrutinized more so than they were before. Three re-orgs in past year. Waiting for other shoe to drop. Not sure who is driving this crazy train... Saul.

Layoffs - more layoffs. There are some going on TODAY. Not sure how large but two people sent me messages they are gone as of 6pm local today. Both have engineer titles but do a lot of the paperwork, scheduling and reporting.

Good luck, folks.

Tech secretaries are a must for Agile due to the enormous amount of stupid paperwork related to change request, and enterprise initiatives. My job is 90% stupid paperwork now...

WF is proof that banks don't have to be efficient to make big profits for the shareholders.

Yes. Why? Combination of management not having any idea what we do day to day, wrong people in roles, horrible tools to get the work done (I.e., enterprise programs running off manually maintained spreadsheets), lack of training leading to a lot of rework and a lack of documentation to properly train people, again leading to a lot of rework.

I’m in Tech btw.

Not in marketing. We just keep adding more bodies to work 10 hours/week and get paid for 40.

Layoffs in 2020 and 2021 and no backfill on attrition

Yes, because WF is intentionally driving attrition, even after we got hit big with layoffs last year

I wouldn’t say we are short staffed as much as mis-staffed. We have 3-4 people that could be replaced with a bug off the street and get as much accomplished. We could also use a tech secretary who can help us as a team get better organized around initiatives and tracking Jira Epics and such. If you gave me 1 TBSA type person, and two driven. Engineers, you can take four off my team. That would be net -1 FTE and we would get much more accomplished. If kept the status quo, then yes we are understaffed by 3…

The loss of contractors has been a huge hit to our team. We had basically been operating at 1-2 below the bare minimum necessary number of FTE's and covering it up with 4-6 contractors, particularly for those shifts that anyone with a family can't/won't work.

Sure, they hired to get us to the minimum, but a staffing fire drill the moment anyone takes a day off gets old after a few years. Oh, and we've been told we need to drastically improve efficiency, while being told to track every single thing we do for our job in order to come up with metrics designed to turn how someone thinks into a quantifiable measure of productivity.

It's theatre of the absurd.

Yup, we've been working with a vendor in Hawaii to conduct verification on the vax cards, and all the LE referrals have been creating a huge backlog it's been a bear to get additional funding for

Yes. Because senior management is doing everything it can to make it miserable here for more self attrition to occur.

Yes, understaffed and Recruiting is also understaffed and can’t keep up. Workday has slowed the process down even more.

Not replacing "non-agile" roles (BAs, project managers, manual testers) in tech as resources leave. Developers are not ready/willing/able to pick up the gap in roles and become cross functional. We're basically doomed to slowing to a crawl. And of course, the business in nowhere to be found in the Agile transformation. Yee Haw!

Yes, and in tech. For my group, all backfills for onshore positions are not being approved this year because they're trying to trim the budget. So we're having some managers on other teams ask if people on our team can assist them.

No backfill since May 2020.
