Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is anyone even making an effort to retain talent?

Feels like over 50% of my org left for new higher-paying jobs elsewhere within the last 6 months, and this is BEFORE the annual bonus payout opens the floodgates to more resignations that will likely take the remaining 50%.

Has anyone heard of any team anywhere at Dell even trying to retain people any more? I had asked a VP if there would be any strategic changes to try to retain people in light of the mass resignations and the response was basically a shrug.

I genuinely don’t know how anything is going to get done next fiscal year with entire teams and decades of knowledge completely gone with no backups or documentation, but also have not seen a single leader anywhere taking this matter seriously. (Probably because they too are actively interviewing elsewhere…)

Sad state that the hiring supervisors are trying to achieve quota for moonshot goal for the year 2030.
With the majority of people that I have seen resumes and if hired over the past couple of years the candidates do not stay at a company for even 3 to 5 years… they leave and have to be replaced , re trained to understand all the intricacies of a job.

During interview at Dell, it was mentioned (perhaps a slip when they were sparking) that the goal is to hire women in technical positions….

50% Total / 40% in management. I’d fear for the two boys.
That’s the way it’s going.
Bottom of the barrel left.

Most likely will be some innovative moves occurring, losing 29 Million and the mountain of debt the company is under adjustments will be forthcoming.

They won’t attempt to stop anyone from exiting the company. Posting a 29 Million dollar loss, appears that they don’t know what to do now that the Covid Bubble that have been sellingin is slowing.

Absolutely this is the truth in my workgroup every time there is an adjustment the men in the group 50 years old and above are impacted, released of their employment. So far there are 2 left that haven’t been impacted but we all fear it is only a matter of time before they are
released also.

Waiting for the bonus myself before I make up my mind, without bragging I am considered a talent and someone they would really like to keep, but it doesn't reflect in my title or paycheck.

No. Dell is a 5th tier company. They've survived with mediocrity for so long so why change now? It's a keep the lights on till you can't anymore.

They will just hire outside the country to compensate.

I’ve seen some IT companies respond to inflation by offering EVERY employee a five-figure retention bonus to stay. Dell wouldn’t even give me a gift card.

I have noticed alot of people leaving before the bonus which tells me their new position is making the jump worth it. The job mark does seem to be heating up right now.

This is what Dell wants, new cheap hires people…
Executives believe all you need to know is how to use a laptop and Microsoft office suite..
Then all will be fine.
