Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Another nauseating check-in

It took less than 20 minutes for the comments section to head into Na-i comparisons territory. Way too many clueless employees unable to keep their mediocre opinions locked in their small brains. And the usual "do as I say, don't do as I do" show from ELT members. What a sad circus act.

Chuck and Fran have succeeded in removing all of the leaders and thinkers in the company. They're left with activist employees, that will defocus the company even further from customer success, and disengaged employees that are just taking a paycheck.

There's no turning back at this point.

These check-ins are awful. I shut it off when the alphabet people complained that leadership was not standing up against what was going on in Tx and Fl. These calls should be about sharing the latest technology directions, customer wins, and business strategies. This focus on social justice is awful and does nothing helpful.

@3ldl+1ftIwOXC, you're right that freedom would able to call out the racists from across the spectrum and the communists within the company without fear of being persecuted for it.

And you have the freedom to be stupid and say stupid things and pay the consequences of those actions.

Let's keep work professional and keep politics out of it. Work meetings are for work discussions.

Why is the layoff allowing comments with na-i in them?

Not all comments are allowed. I tried to answer the post that asked what it was and said the missing letter was a z and they could simply Google it for themselves and it got deleted. I don't know why that would be deleted.

"call out the racists from across the spectrum and the communists within the company"

I'm speechless at how witless this remark is. Racism is plain crass, wrong, ignorant and never acceptable. Now what business of yours is it to judge ideological affinities of your fellow coworkers? That's why we can't have nice things. You feel empowered to go on a crusade against dogmas you simply don't comprehend. Keep your mediocre opinions to the family reunion or the pub, spare us all from spilling them in Check-ins.

Post from TheLayoff.com

The replies would be spectacular if the ELT highlighted the commonality amongst countries that actively criminalize LGB-TQ. Intersectionality could really spice up the check-ins.

"Why is the layoff allowing comments with na-i in them?"

Now this would be quite the paradox if whoever wrote this is American. Screaming freedom everywhere yet quick at asking for censorship. To the poster suggesting I don't watch Check-in if it bothers me, you're totally missing the point. Too many comments in the chat are out of line, out of place, witless, uneducated and tasteless. There's no place for those in a corporate event, you should understand that.

I stopped attending these Check-Ins a long, long time ago and for good reason. By the looks of this post, I won't be attending one anytime soon.

Unfortunately Big Tech silences freedom of speech as witnessed in the media every day and is significantly responsible much of the turmoil in the US, which has led to weak leadership that has the domino effect of what is going on in Ukraine now. We need people like the Ukraine people that will stand up and defend against tyranny.

It’s something to check out for topics of interest, i usually skim the recording or put it on whilst doing something else and focus when it gets interesting or relevant to me (not a US based employee). I do find the chat a bit sycophantic, oh and “hello from…..” as it scrolls up the screen at 100mph is really wasted effort. I leave the Q&A active as that does have the odd useful gem. However, hearing something from the SLT gets it straight rather than the filtered version from umpteen layers of management.

Cisco has to become a leader in the “inform, isolate, impoverish” movement against Russia. We have to make sure our tech isn’t used to support the Russian war machine or any economic activity that funds it.

Yeah the check-ins are getting pretty annoying. It feels like a weird combination between a bunch of activists crying and Gavin Belson releasing the Signature Box III that no one really cares about.

Current RTP real estate values for the campus makes it a logical choice for sale.

It is a sound decision to now sell the RTP campus and migrate any lab or data center facilities. The footprint for lab and data center infrastructure is only a small percentage of the total building square footage.

The past two years have proven a primary, overall virtual business model indeed works well; and both is preferred and expected by the majority of employees going forward.

I hung up in disgust after about 5 minutes. I was expecting to see some leadership about the situation in Ukraine. No, we got 30 seconds on the same old platitude “the safety of our staff is our primary concern”. Then onto “Black History Month”.
So I signed off and hit the survey - hard. I don’t know if I’m going to be here next week, given what I wrote.
I was after some insights into what we are going to do about selling our tech to Russia that supports their financial, industrial and military infrastructure. Hope, swiftly onto leftist tropes. Of course half the audience have zero interest in BHM since they live outside the US.

@lrb+1ftIwOXC, same two or three countries? Try same two or three people.
@bpn+1ftIwOXC, deal with it? How about they be professional and keep politics, religion and social agendas out of the work place?
@kln+1ftIwOXC, it's sad that they didn't learn from an earlier Check-in where people were fired for their comments. Now if HR would only discipline these id--ts to didn't learn from others.

Here are some of the comments, with the associated names removed.

  • The GOP right now is tantamount to fascism in Na-i Germany in the 1930's
  • Not every republican is a bad person, we shouldnt group people into one generalization.
  • I really don't appreciate being compared to a na-i for voting republican, and you should be ashamed to make that comparison.
  • Why do we need to bring politics in Corporate env?
  • not everyone who votes republican. But all the Republican politicians are in solidarity against basic human rights.
  • Did everyone forget when Chuck threatened to disable chat because it was spiraling into anarchy??
  • I wouldn't put a generalization on anyone, but the last R president just praised Putin, and we see R's continuously put forth laws that violate human rights. SOO, it's not such a stretch.
  • Decency is apolitical.
  • webex, you need to develop an emoji for a dumpster fire!
  • There are no Na-i's here. Be grateful for that. Be respectful. Remember our values. We have a lot more in common than not.

Graffiti was evident in the Roman Empire.

Trying to control what people write is as effective as trying to control what people think or say.

Deal with it.
