Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why can't we WFH forever?

Give me one good reason. Just one. If it worked so far, it should work in the future as well.

Hey, we paid for all that office space and we're gonna' use it, even if it makes no sense.

Even if it's the opposite of making sense!

Plus, as your king, I wanna' see my subjects get nervous everytime I walk into the room!

i just wonder how I'm going to hide my facial reactions in face to face meetings (that will very seldom take place). 2.5 years of working from home has made me loose my workplace decorum.

In answer to your question, yes. They do get tax breaks only if a certain % of the building is occupied.

Does the company get tax breaks for its real estate only if it is a certain % occupied? Did JPM do it, and therefore we have to do it? Did a coalition of Chambers of Commerce beg/bribe the Man to get us back in the office to keep surrounding businesses in business? Are there enough old white men still in power that believe that unless we are behind the desk, we are goofing off? Could be anything… just nothing that matters to us, the happy WFHomers.

Why can't we WFH forever?

You can. Simply quit and stay home.

I imagine most of the big banks don’t want to rock the boat enough on this to cause the eventual collapse of the commercial real estate industry. I mean how much of our loans are for commercial real estate? If WF, BofA, JPM, etc all just decided to keep everyone home forever, that would probably become the standard for the entire financial services industry top to bottom and permanently damage a large sector of the economy.

Daley should work from a nursing home. Or jail.

Politicians demanded it. In the long term it will fail, but neither pols or current company leadership are concerned about the long term, so here we are.

Companies were moving everyone to a work from anywhere at anytime model. Laptops were issued. Desktop computers went the way of the dinosaur. Everyone was encouraged to work off the premises to be better prepared for business continuity events and work life balance. Now we have to go into the office, find a desk, be surrounded by strangers, pack up our computer nightly and probably at lunch. This is at the same time other companies finally decided to offer remote work. Nothing makes sense.

@yjf+1ftgD0K has it exactly correct:

Ego and pride. Charlie can’t admit he was wrong. He promised the board, shareholders, and city leaders that there would be butts in those seats. To backtrack now in the name of evolution and innovation isn’t something he’s wired for. Office work is a one size fits all solution for those who lack vision and also have motivation to make their workers annoyed enough to quit. Unfortunately, the problem with that last bit is that the most qualified employees are finding better gigs, and Wells Fargo is being left with the cast off deadwood that have limited or no options. I enjoy full circle irony sometimes.🤷🏻

I think there is something “magical” about 3days per week in office hybrid RTO. Saw an article yesterday that Google’s hybrid is also 3 days per week. Granted Google so far does not mandates everybody back to the office. I guess, Google know how to treat employees right.
Regarding WF I would saw blaming everything on Charles is mire or less satisfying and old at the same time. We all know that no one in the company is routing for team members not leadership’s, not hr. So I guess, we all are our own leaders of our success. It is either stay with Wells and see what will happen next or move on on our own terms while it is possible.

Lots of people found remote jobs years ago, the same jobs WF is now trying to push into the hybrid model.

Don't like it? Find a remote job. In the meantime, be happy you're working!

"Building occupancy agreements between Wells Fargo and the cities where buildings are located."

^This

Gub'ment and corporations don't really care about pollution, they care about renting out their properties and making money.

Because WF has chosen to predominantly go with a Hybrid model. Secondly, You can-If you get a job somewhere that offers Full Time WFH. Enough already...
