Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Still have childcare concerns/shortages in US but BoA doesn’t care

Few are in the situation where returning to the office makes sense. We adapted and busted our butts to set up home office arrangements and now the bank wants to pretend like we didn’t jump through hoops ourselves to maintain productivity.. well, guess what.. this situation can’t be treated the same for all and many people have excellent reasons for not wanting to return.

For example, many with kids still don’t have reliable child-care setups. There’s a shortage of available spots with child care, and people with school-aged children can have their kids sent home to quarantine with no notice whenever they have a potential COVID exposure. Moreover, people with kids who can’t be (or are too young to be) vaccinated need to worry about bringing COVID home to their families.

These aren’t “excuses” not to come back, and they’re definitely not signs that people don’t value their careers. They’re legitimate, well-founded reasons not to force folks to return until they’re comfortable - as long as they’re being productive.

All I have to say is- do not plan any face to face meetings, engagement events, etc.. I’ll do my job, keep my distance, and rush out to jump in rush hour traffic with that $5 a gallon gas that has been PROVEN to be so unnecessary… I’ll do this until I get a job at another company with the option to WFH.

You stayed because you thought the bank cared about you and your family? SMH. In case you no one told you throughout your career so far, and as it was once explained to me in a team meeting sitting in a conference room by an upper level manager in town from the east coast, “you are nothing more than a number to the bank, and at any given time you can and will be replaced very easily by another number”.

@ike+1fuvGAl7 - genuinely curious, where on earth have you been calling? where are these call centers with the drunks?

I've called Customer Service centers for all kinds of places and things over the past 3 years, and experienced none of this. If anything, I express a greater appreciation and patience, and have been rewarded with kind service and help for whatever I was calling about. People just seem nicer.

And for those with the drunk managers (which I have seen), the only diff is they are now at home instead of in the office with the vodka in their mug and reusable water bottle. (that's been the case for decades and hasn't changed.)

I'm barely over that 100k threshold myself. And the bank just makes it seem like a punishment as opposed to a reward for the hard work it took to get to that level.

The healthcare cost difference alone is enough to make me look elsewhere.

The other offers were to competitorswho required hybrid work (I still will and other in wait and c) and had to travel 5 days a month w new job...the bank had not forced rto by then..probably would have to put in 40 to 45 hours a week vs current of 30 to 35 or so....plus the devil you know...

@1lcn you have to keep moving onward and upward. No company over 100 employees is really going to care about you individually. It just doesn't happen. They make decisions for business reasons and so should you. Turning down 20% increases... unless there were some other bad points you didn't mention... that just doesn't make sense.
Good luck, but really... get back on the search!

I am a bit bitter...the bank provided childcare during the pandemic to help me w kids and mental health..This was available for the past 9 years (in some sort of version) at least for JO--T (single was $50 or $75k) tax filiers with less than Adjusted Gross Income of $100k per year...last year I went over $100k on my income for the first time at the bank and the bank changed how they determined childcare benefits in June of 2021. Now if you make over $100k with bank you are no longer eligible for child care (still can use childcare account) reimbursement up to $275 per child per month...

My wife and I (wife works as CNA at nursing home) still make under $100k adjusted gross income (with 401ks and health insurance dropping us undet $100k)...

So my insurance went up like 80% because I hit $100k (costs like $3k more per year). The bank changed how they reimbursed childcare and costs $9,900 a year ($275 per month, 3 kids x 12 months) and now want me to pay $3,000 a year to go back into the ofgice ($150 a month parking and $100 at least in gas).

So I am out $10,900 a year in benefits to help with kids after a 2% raise (roughly $1.8k). Down $9,000 a year...

I know you will say damn they were giving you almost $10k a year and thats socialism or communism or whatever...the issue is I turned down job offers 2 times over last 2 years that would have given me 20% raises as I felt the bank cared about families w generous childcare benefits...

The bank clearly doesn't care and I wish I would have known back then what the last 6 months has taught me about leadership at the bank...

Companies shouldn't be so quick to force out older workers who have for years managed childcare while going into an office.

I hear and feel your pain as a parent, but I have to admit, the call wait times to get a live person on the line has gotten obscene at most companies, not just BOA. Also, it’s super difficult to try and have an effective business conversation with dogs, children and screaming husbands in the background; not to mention, the representatives who are drunk off their a-s slurring words or uncontrollably crying. I’ve literally experienced it all with people working from home. It will be nice to call into a business once again and talk to a professional. Be positive. Where there is a will there will be a way and we will all adjust back into the routine of life or find a new job.

For those who voted for Biden, don't complain. You get what you ask for - America LAST. FJB

My kids after school program has been booked solid since summer. Can’t get her in and have Continuously followed up on that waiting list. Only other option is to have her bused offsite to a center that charges $185 a week! That absolutely is not an option especially now with them talking about gas prices going up to $7 a gallon! Not to mention they close at 6 PM (staff shortages so shorter hours..) and my commute is over an hour with traffic so I wouldn’t even make it on time. The bank brags about their childcare assistance programs that are a big pain in the bu-t… and they wouldn’t even cover a full week much less a month.
