Thread regarding Ford layoffs

ICE ICE Baby!

RLT Capital, an investment management firm, published its fourth-quarter 2021 investor letter. Here are some extracts:

"it’s the decidedly unsexy legacy operations that keep GM’s cash registers ringing in the here and now."
"If you think all the talk about electric and/or autonomous vehicles is either total hogwash or still decades into the future . . . GM’s legacy business has you covered. For as long as consumers continue to demand ICE powered vehicles, GM will capably meet said demand. "

I know this is related to our competitor, but I feel that I can exchange where it says GM with Ford, and the message would be the same: ICE still rules! Most Ford employees realize this, the investment management companies realize this, most of the population realize this... Why is Ford management trying to ki-l the Legacy business, A.K.A. the golden goose? It makes no sense at all. Am I losing my head here or are they not using theirs properly?

Ford recently pitched an Electric transit to an RV manufacturer in Indiana. The RV exec asked some questions about range given the weight of the RV and then placed a map on the table and demonstrated that on average every 80 miles the RV driver would need to begin to find a place to charge, detours on average of 20 miles to find a charger. RVers normally expecting to travel 500 miles a day would now be traveling at best 300 miles a day. RVers would be unable to travel to remote areas.
The RV exec told Ford it was a hard pass on Electric transit, customers would not purchase an EV RV, not ready for soup yet.

It almost seems like Ford is trying to fit everything into one mold. EV in not a panacea.

Making Excursions was the equivalent to printing money. Just a shame at the end of it's life it had the 6.0L... Same concept with a 6.7L today, printing press turned back on...

Remember back in the mid-2000's when bill personally ax ed the Excursion and made it known he was behind that call because it was bad for the environment? Which by the way was total bull and we ended up giving very profitable extra large SUV business to GM. Just more history to remind you another example of how Ford missed easy money.

That was before the word woke was in use. We'll just now say because of being woke, bill will axe the ICE biz.

F150 is not just the golden goose, it is the whole golden zoo. Ford must be very careful about the emphasis on Duracell version. Too much crowing about that can send customers into the arms of GM, Stellantis who will pump out every and any ICE product a customer asks for.
