Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Chemical Division

Karen Mckee and company Should take a hard look at Mid management positions. The amount of positions and created made up jobs is ridiculous. Production sites are heavy on this end especially in the Beaumont area. The O&A plant is running out of space to store all these folks.

This is true. I worked at the Beaumont O&A Chem site a few years back and Middle Management is heavy. Both the process and maintenance departments have a lot of redundancies.

In BR there are some great folks in the DH ranks but in general that’s an ineffective group of the organization. Anything that gets escalated to that level of real value or concern dies there. We are all learning it’s so easy to work around them, they haven’t the slightest clue to what is actually going on each day. IMO, if there is a level of management that can be so easily bypassed and all the critical items still get completed then there is no need for them.

I remember being taught you need to demonstrate your value / justify your cost each year. Guess this only applies to IC’s.

I have no details but remain optimistic that some levels would of middle management are eliminated in Product Solutions.

Middle Management needs thinning in all parts of the company, not just under Ms McKee.

Same situation at Baytown. I’m a DH and have been “advised” to “broaden my horizon” by my manager. Was told that XOM was benchmarked against CVX, BP, Shell, and others and that we have a much lower ratio of IC to managers after the moves during the last two years. Department Head and manager positions will be decimated this year at Baytown, Beaumont, and Baton Rouge this year.
I’ve updated my resume and have been interviewing since mid January, but nothing yet. I’m hoping that XOM will postpone headcount reduction with higher oil prices and profits but it seems that the plan will continue regardless of the price of oil. It sounds like all oil companies are reducing headcount.
