Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Good news

Guys and gals, there’s a lot of posts out there really slamming Citi hard. I have to admit most of the concerns are valid. Given the negative sentiment and\or environment, use it as fuel.
There are a TON of jobs out there to accommodate just about any employment wish list that you may have. Work from home 100% or hybrid, more $, more vacation time, sign on bonuses, overall larger bonuses, flexible work shifts, on-site daycare, onsite gyms, catered lunch etc……take your pick. IMHO most of the responses of “its like this everywhere, no use to look outside of Citi” are most likely someone from management trying to stop the attrition bleeding.

Guys, you gotta trust me on this. You have nothing to lose. Revamp your LinkedIn profile, setup your LinkedIn job search alerts and start applying and look outside the financial sector as well. (Or use whatever search engine you want). I started applying and in one month out of 6 different job submissions, I was asked to interview for 2 of them within a week and 3 interviews the next week. Out of those 5, I have 3 offers presented to me in addition ALL of them have asked “do you know of anyone else looking for a position that you can refer to us.”

I’m applying for jobs right now. The first offer I get that’s at least as much as I make and 100% remote work, I’m taking. No two week notice, just starting it asap.
For those who say “you’ll burn your bridge that way” , I say “good, as its a bridge I’ll not traverse again.”

It’s so funny to me to watch management try to sell that Citi is the only place ever hiring and is the only place you can ever work at. All the while people are leaving in droves like the building is on fire.

I heard nothing for 3 weeks, then all of a sudden 5 replies back to back in 1 week. Wearing shades as the future is so bright.

It’s sad to me to see Citi make monetary counter offers when someone turns in their resignation. If the money was there for the counter offer, it was there before the resignation was submitted but just not given. When the staff leaves anyway, management is in a bewilderment as to “what went wrong”. Like its a big mystery that just can’t be solved.

Man….I’ve been looking at the posts off and on and a repeating theme is “look elsewhere” “others are hiring” and so forth. Well, I decided to just give it a shot and see what happens. One week after my resume submission, I had two interviews with the same company. At the end of the second interview, I was made an offer much more generous than I ever thought I’d get. I’m not a hater but I am a soon to be ex-Citi employee.

Couldn’t agree more. A colleague of mine got another job and when asked by his skip level manager as to why his response was.

“My manager kept saying ‘if you don’t like it leave’ or ‘get a job somewhere else if you want more money’. So challenge accepted and now a month later, I found one making more money with one extra week of vacation time with a sign on bonus. So, I’m outta here and I’m very grateful for my manager encouraging me like he did as now I’m in a better place.” LOL

Don’t get mad at Citi. Instead use any negativity as motivational fuel and get in gear. Jobs are out there, money is out there. It’s’ yours, you just have to go and get it. Again, trust me, give it about 2 months of serious searching and submitting to see who nibbles. You might be surprised and you have absolutely nothing to lose but a little time and absolutely everything to gain.
