Right there with you OP. Without giving away too much identifying info, pre-COVID I was usually at my desk well after 9 and on my way out the door shortly after 4 every day. This was worked out with my manager from day 1.
Post-COVID I've been able to log in before 8 each morning, work until 5 or later most days, and check back in once or twice in the evening, all while still helping get kids to school in the morning and continuing to coach youth sports in the evening.
My manager understands that as of 3/14 my former schedule will once again become the norm. I haven't made any demands; this is just where I am in life. I do well at my job, and they have afforded me some flexibility.
By forcing RTO, WF is willingly trading 9+ hours of work for less than 7 each day just to have my bu-t in a seat.

Easy - productivity in office was far lower. I am able to work longer hours because I'm not spending 3-4 hours a day in traffic away from a computer. I'm not paying ridiculous amounts to park. I'm not spending money in a place I don't live. I am not required to spend time dressing up and down each day. I am able to do chores or help around the house on my lunch break - increasing work life balance and reducing my stress. This is not a hard question to answer.

So how do you account for all those years that you went into the office? If it takes you 12 hours to do 8 hours work, that's a different issue. None of this will ki-l anybody. You'll either leave or get used to it.

Make me go in. All the extra fluff you get from me when I'm remote will go away. That extra 8 hours each week will instead go to my commute.

So your response to RTO is to act like a child? I assume the layoffs and outsourcing that follow will not come as a huge surprise then. Save everyone the trouble and just go somewhere that suits your lifestyle better then.

Yep, already blocked the calendar to include reconnection to docking station and cleaning of work area every morning for the first 30 minutes. And the clock starts running when i pull into the garage as it will take 5 elevators just to get up to my floor as I refuse to pack in like sardines.
Why take calls at all? Tell everyone to meet you in a conference room and if they can't, then the value from the interaction is deemed less than necessary and move on with your day. Fully utilize the office like the dear leaders command.

When I am WFH, I would take a call at 6, or stay until 10pm to get a job done. I volunteer for projects, I will collaborate own work groups and actively participate. I am ready and willing to work anytime.
When I am in office, I will work my scheduled hours and not a second more. I will not join work groups, will not network or ‘collaborate’, and will not willingly volunteer for anything. I will do my job as written in my description, and I will work the hours I am assigned.
My life balance is more important to me than ever before and I will not negotiate on that.
The earliest I ever accept a meeting is 7 am and that's only in very limited circumstances. No way would I attend a 5 or 6 am call unless I was also leaving at 2 or 3 pm.
I'm assuming you are on the west coast so those calls are 8 or 9am on the east coast. Yeah, it is hard enough working across a 3 hour time zone and some teams are working with offshore as well.
I agree, stick to your "in the office" hours every day from now on.

Absolutely. You make me drive in to a location for a regular shift I'm absolutely going to clock in and out. They can schedule the meeting for when I'm available if they need me. My calendar now shows me as OOO before and after my business hours.
