Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike used to care about employees

I know it's hard for some of the new people to believe this, but Nike really did care. I stay here even now because I keep hoping that things will change for the better once again. It's not impossible. All we need is to get people who care about employees and the company instead of just their paychecks in charge. It's doable.

Nike has never cared about employees. We have always been extras in the grand production that is Nike.

Twenty years ago a HUGE event was held at Ronaldo field to celebrate completion of the North Campus. HR drones were stationed at entry points to make sure employees sat in backless bleachers furthest from the stage. VIP seating at ground level was reserved for the construction companies, their employees, Nike execs, and, of course, the media.

A couple years ago, with the present campus expansion under way, a well-known Swoosh exec insisted on paying all the construction workers generous cash bonuses at Christmastime--with Nike's money.

Nike employees may have occasionally spotted a random sports celebrity around campus back in the day. But we knew better than to say hi or make eye contact, lest we embarrass the brand. Unfortunately, a Jordan employee proved their point when, during a rare employee Q&A with DJ, she asked him out on a date.

"Nike is a Company" is the only maxim that ever mattered. Nike is a for-profit corporation above all. Never forget that there are a dozen secret bands above the S, and everyone--everyone-- is replaceable.

Employees were just given another paid week off in August just like Nike has done last year. Cannot help but wonder if this week will be before or after additional layoffs. Is “leadership” using that week to finalize the layoffs “approach” or “strategy?” 😂 funny mentioning Nike leadership and strategy in the same sentence even if the context is simple!

Lmao, you’re going to be waiting forever. Leadership is too busy putting energy into racism/sexism veiled as DEI.

No it is not doable. To get better people at the top, requires those at the top to completely believe that Nike’s culture is broken and make it their mission to fix. To that, nearly all of them have to step aside. However, since that is not even close to what they care about, it won’t happen. Admit it, that period or era is well and truly over.
