Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

RTO Enforcement

Has anyone heard anything about how WF is checking RTO attendance and what is the consequence? What happens if you just don't go in?

They may be able to gather or log network location data or net login data but I can tell you it’s 100% not being provided to management. If even a senior exec suspects someone is logging in from another location, they have to get HR approval to get that info and it’s really very difficult to get approval to get that info.

WF is checking attendance through badge swipes and are cross-referencing this with netlogon data (when you logon to your laptop from home/VPN shows differently than when you are jacked into the WF local network and logon).

Citi uses this method exclusively to check space utilization. It's very effective.

Now then, all this does is show that you logged in from work. At Citi, people would scam this... They would show up to work, badge in, sit at their cube, jack in their laptop logon, then work for an hour or so... Then they would leave, go home and work the remainder of the day from home.

Well, what is your manager telling you? If you're being told x days per week and not showing up they might let it slide initially. But at some point they MAY start telling you to show up or there might be consequences. Our leadership has said at least once a week (for now anyway). I'm guessing that they're going to keep an eye on the numbers of how many people are showing up or not and then either be ok with it or start cracking down.

It should go without saying that they have badge reports. So they know if you're going to the building or not.

False again. A simple command shows all adapters configured as a bridge which is zero. The agreement you agree to says Wells Fargo has the right to monitor their own equipment. They have no rights to monitor other equipment on a private home network.

They might be able to do this with specific software but it is not enabled by default on our devices.

The moment you put your work laptop on your home network, it is capable of nmapping all devices on your home network and the network card can be put in promiscuous mode to see what all other computers on your network are doing. This basically is the nature of Ethernet, all hosts on the network can see all other traffic on the subnet. All network traffic passes through the network card of each computer and as such becomes property of Wells Fargo when it resides on the Wells Fargo computer. And, of course, when you log in, you agree to ANY monitoring that Wells Fargo performs.

This is false as well.

Keystrokes are not captured. In fact we have a new tool that prevents it.

Mouse clicks are recorded by certain apps, so it the distance the mouse travels. This is not provided to management - yet. Same with idle time.

Data transferred - not given to management.

Apps started - in a way, yes. It can tell which apps are open, and it can tell how long certain activities take or if they are spending time in a non responsive state, but it’s not provided to management.

Network sniffing would be a big no-no, and a huge HR issue which is why that is not real nor is any info of that kind provided to management. They only have rights to your device if it’s a corp device, and have only got permissions to the container app if it’s a personal device. This is also clearly explained in the documents you agree to when you enroll in BYO. They do not have any right to your home network, personal devices outside of the container, or other HR enforced metrics.

Your post is only made to stoke fear and is misinformation.

It is the same employee productivity report that shows keystrokes, mouse clicks, data transferred, apps started, and max keyboard idle time. Managers can then click on a link to replay in minutes all you did for the day, if necessary. This was implemented last year, which is why your computer at home is so slow. The software has the ability to take snapshots of you at your laptop, but WF does not generally use this. Also available is the ability to determine what other computers are doing on your home network, known as "network sniffing" using your laptop network card.

This is completely false. No one in the top three levels receives a daily badge report with lists of employees who did not badge in, and even if they did they most likely do not even have time to review it.

Those decisions will most likely be pushed down to mid level managers eventually, but there is nothing being done at this time.

between cr---y reporting and HR punting any enforcement to the LOBs you are going to have a very inconsistent roll out. I'd be surprised if any senior leadership is signing into the details, for them the reporting would be direction and if it indicates a large % of their group is not coming in at least a little bit then theyll start taking action. it wouldn't surprise me if Charlie has some behind the scenes goals for the l1 and l2s to get to a certain % of rto or no bonus

On my third week of RTO. First week felt a bit busy, but had spring break here so thought the second week would be busier. Second week sat in different places trying to find the quietist spots. Went Mon, Tues, and Fri to avoid people. All were fairly quiet. This week I had to go Mon, Tues, and Wed. I expected Wed to be the worst day. It seemed like this week was even quieter than last week. There may have been 3 people in my row. It seems like fewer people are showing up now.

Given that how inept tech is, is the badge swiping data 100% accurate? Has it been tested?

Just what we need to usher in the future of the company. All the managers playing attendance mommy while all the workers scheme to "work the system" to minimize the negative side effects of RTO. Meanwhile, no actual work is getting done, no progress on reg issues, no push to actually earn $. No, just a quarter million people running around enforcing stupidity and trying to avoid stupidity.

I specifically asked my manager about how this would be managed for PTO, etc and they said "Oh, you'll have to be in 3 days per week still, no matter what." I felt like she was making it up and trying to scare me off. Other team members in other states (non hubs) were getting very vague on if they had to "RTO" and the manager never addressed people individually in meetings besides that they could "continue as before". I KNEW there was going to be a HUGE level of unfairness in the management of this, and as I was not a manager's favorite, despite performing & helping out the team (which was never reciprocated), I decided for many reasons to leave.

The whole thing is managed with so much incompetence, favoritism, illogical reasoning and lack of transparency, it's majorly irresponsible in a time of economic uncertainty and pandemic to treat employees like this.

Senior Manager’s get a report every week with everyone’s name and how many days they badged in that week. Nothing about number of times per day or time spent in the office. It’s not linked up with PTO or Holidays so it would take some digging to figure out someone only went twice that week without a good reason too.

I feel bad for some really good managers, having to force their teams into doing things that doesn’t make sense to all of them. Charlie and his friends are throwing them under the bus, those poor managers are going to be on the fire-line, taking all the heat, having too little to do, then their managers will come after them if they fail to execute this mission. It’s a food chain big managers will eat small managers, then Comes Charlie watching the show and collecting his new pay raise!

Managers are being pressured into micromanaging the RTO, assigning team spies to watch other team members, when they come and go, eavesdropping, what they wear absolute BS that unfortunately some people enjoy observing and serving, they are facing outrageous resistance that sometimes turns into getting involved in Childish behaviors. Some team members are playing a catch me if you can game, managers on the other side are pressed into doing small people stuff trying to gain control over their team members. It is horrible and will not have a good ending. The pressure is coming down the chain from Charlie, he is forcing some decent few managers into becoming another stupid image of his insecure mental state and lust to control. I can say they have an issue with crisis management and how to gain employees on their side other than creating unnecessary 2 sides of enemies, toxic and stupid! You can always get people support but they chose to do it the wrong way! Consequences for both sides are going to be very bad!

seems only top most level get any real reporting and eventually will be up to managers to enforce assuming their senior management wants it enforced in which case you are looking at performance improvement plans, informal warning followed by formal followed by a pink slip. of course your mileage may vary depending on your group leadership. right now as a manager I don't care where my employees are as long as they're working but when I'm told to start caring I won't put my job on the line and I'll start the warning process.

@jab+1g0XxCLO My manager has kind of the same attitude, but I’m skeptical. If upper management comes out and decides to lay the hammer down on RTO noncompliance I don’t think it matters whether or not my direct manager cares about me being in the office at that point.

It's enforced by your manager. Luckily mine doesn't care and has said she won't be keeping an eye on badge swipes. Half my team already had approved perm WFH agreements anyway, but those of us who don't have agreements are also just staying home since our manager is looking the other way.
