Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Highly effective way to demotivate employees

Don't be fooled, PIPs are just masked layoffs. If Exxon really cared about employees improving their performance, Exxon would do its best to motivate us. However, management has become an expert in sending demotivating messages. Even those who are not PIPed will surely look for a way out of here as soon as their colleagues are put on PIP.

The whole “let them eat cake” attitude displayed by management ever since THEIR financial mismanagement surfaced in late 2019 was only exceeded by their truly employee-focused (NOT) COVID response. The genius of mandating 8% PIPs during those two years has to rank slightly ahead of Stalin’s purges for thoughtfulness and caring.

If anyone sees DW walking around the campus with a gold glove with six different glowing stones in it - be afraid, be very afraid.

As soon as Growing with Purpose was tossed in chemicals any sort of employee motivation was lost. I understand the last 2 years was tough but wouldn’t that be the right time to motivate people? I’m not sure we’ll ever get a positive culture back, not sure that’s even what they want anymore. We jumped out of the plane with no parachute.

They didn’t let a crisis go to waste, they are doing what they always wanted. They stopped caring about employee morale years ago.

When our career development and merit raises is based on 70+% cultural conformance under the new system instead of consistently being objective and telling the truth to management we should seriously consider a career change.

Even HiPo's are not immune when "facts" are unearthed that have been buried by cultural politically motivated politics.

Unfortunately, our managers desire cultural conformance instead of employees that consistently share fact-based information with management.

You forget that we were also limited in how much we could rise.

Yes, now everyone can move in both directions. I don’t know it is a bad thing.

Removing the limitations on how far down in ranking a person can fall happened at same time the PIP system was weaponized.

This was done so that any person at any rank level could be PIP’d/fired.

We are all on 1 year contracts.
