Is there any way to take it without the company reaching out ?

Some of you sound like bitter prem techs that failed the tk2 test. Study basic electricity and maybe you’ll be able to pass the test. I passed the test on my 1st try without even trying. During that time I was applying for different companies taking similar tests to the tk2 test so I believe that helped me. You can’t just wing this tk2 test. Good luck to you prem techs. I was hired into specials last year during the mass hiring in district 9.
It’s been 22 years since I took it. I remember formulas for a bunch of electronics stuff. I remember calculations for magnetic flux etc. flow charts, schematics etc. Then when I worked at a TKT required job I was like, we don’t use any of that. It’s addition and subtraction. Why did I learn calculus for this job. The test shows you can learn the job. Although most can barely do the bare minimum.
Exactly what the last post said.
Qualification = I should be able to
Certification = I can
The union likes to mix these up often. No union job at AT&T in any contract requires any professional certification.
TKT2 isn’t a certification my friend. It’s a qualification exam for certain union job titles.
@1rcc+1g56HZs0 They wont because then they wont be able to hire friends and family.. and the previous comment below is spot on.. i know a crew in District 9 that has 2 brothers 1 cousin in it and the hiring manager who conducted the interviews is their brother in law.. he-l the last brother who was hired by that manager came over to from the DTV side. That tech had his TKT fail test waived by the hiring manager/recruiter… For those who can,research it look up the last DTV tech who transferred over to the core side.
why don't they tell you what your actual score is and not just pass/fail? does the higher score really matter ?
Its easier when you have family members in management positions, they will “fail” candidates on purpose and pick “the highest score” when applying for core jobs. As far as the TKT test, since covid started all test are done with mask on, just pay a splicer some $$ and have him take the test for you, this is a known practice in District9…
If you don’t pass, no promotion.
They just need a excuse to pick and chose.
All that knowledge just to change off a pair..or frog it from here to Kansas
Sometimes if you have a similar ATT test in your record for a similar title, they will approve it too. Or like other guy said if you have any personal IT/technical certs let them know.
The union is supposed to offer classes to prepare. Alternatively if you have an education/degree in a field that qualifies and can provide proof you get a waiver and auto qualify for positions.
You need to know about electricity. Ohms law. Capacitors, inductors, resistors, power supplies. Wiring diagrams and symbols for each.
That would be information that HR would have. Doubt you get a positive response from them
