Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Have they completely eliminated layoffs?

All I keep hearing about are PIPs, barely anybody mentions layoffs anymore. It would make sense since layoffs cost them money through severance and unemployment. PIPs end in firings, which might cost them unemployment, depending on the state, and that's it. Are we at the point where PIPs are the new layoffs?

Why does everyone think layoffs cost more than PIP? There is no requirement to pay severance for a layoff. The only requirement is the WARN Act notice in certain cases.

Why would we need layoffs when we can just motivate employees to find better higher paying jobs?

Weaponized PIP is not a layoff,,,,nothing to see here…

@tcd+1g5ATSju If the company has too many people with your skill set and you aren’t learning new skills so you can contribute you probably deserve to be PIPd. Figure out how to be valuable or you are gone. Same in any business.

PIPoff = Layoff, but without government red tape (e.g. no need to submit WARN Act notices).

Our VPs have been saying for the past year they “can’t afford Iose anyone else” so of course there won’t be layoffs. There may however be some structural changes based on the current market.

When one takes the PIL, the paperwork signed states the company will not fight unemployment.

Still think layoffs are on the table especially in job families that are still way overstaffed for amount of justified available work. I think there are still areas doing nice to fo stuff instead of need to do stuff. Remember this is a commodity business-like cost producer wins. Just need another crisis to justify the layoff.
