Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Numbers are not adding up?

We are selling EVs. We are selling more EVs.
Great, awesome, superb.
But we are selling less cars overall.
Where is the disconnect.
Things haven't been this bad in a while.
I think people just do not have money to be buying $50K EVs.
They need a solid $25K EV, or a $35K EV SUV, or maybe a $35K Truck.
We are hosed.

You are right, they don't add up. But that doesn't mean they don't make sense!!

Ford is losing sales of ICE vehicles. Big time. I wouldn't be surprised if the F series slips to third place by year's end.

Meantime, the volumes on the Mach-E, and the Lightning when it comes out, will be so low the despite the hype around demand and sales growth, they will hardly make a dent in the overall sales figures. Mach-E production continues to languish. Ford has said it will produce 20,000 Lightnings in 2022. We'll see.

The point is, these are low margin vehicles to begin with, and their volumes will be a fraction of overall sales. So while they won't add up to much, the numbers will make sense as Ford will struggle to sell 3 million vehicles in 2022. Less than 100,000 will be EVs.
