Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

More productive in the office?

If you hate RTO, your metrics should not reflect that you're more productive in the office.

While in the office:

  • Work 8 hours, and only 8 hours. Maybe even work 7h:50m or something like that. Less than 8h, but not enough to not make your boss look like mo--n for bringing it up.
  • No same-day turnarounds. (You're working on it, and want to make sure it's done correctly)
  • Attend every meeting you possibly can (whether in-person or virtual), and make sure your calendar reflects them
  • Decline/tentative all meetings outside your normal hours. Be polite in your decline response (sorry, gotta pick up kids, meet the repair guy, etc.). If you normally leave at 4pm and a meeting comes in from 3:30-4:30, let it be known at the beginning of the meeting that you have a hard stop at 4pm.
  • Planned PTO should be on in-office days as much as possible

Other ideas?

A Wells Fago employee clocks out at 5pm, this is well know in industry...lazy.

That's correct. Makes no difference whatsoever.

Sooo, you're saying that there's no practical benefit to RTO. Got it.

These threads are getting pretty funny. Everyone claiming to be more productive while WFH. Personally, I've seen service levels decline since we started WFH. Open a ticket for a new VM and see if you can get it within three months. Open a ticket for just about anything and see how that works out for you. Just face it, service was cr@p before WFH and it's still cr@p now so for all the 'less productive in the office' stuff, nobody will notice because, you guessed it, it's cra@p anyhow.

Good for you. You’re definitely in the minority. Or lying.

There's a plethora of research that provides evidence of open floor plans destroying productivity. The noise, the constant distraction, all of it if antithetical to creatures that can't multi-task (research proves this as well) being functional in a crowded environment.

They literally make us less productive, then blame us for it.

I’m lucky if I hit 50% productivity on my in office days. So many distractions, usually from other employees or from things being broken and needing repair. I do not have these issues at home.
